I'm a major literature and word geek, loving language to a nearly embarrassing degree. (I once thought it would be awesome to play Scrabble, then write down all the resulting words and write a one-page short story, much to my mom's dismay. I still think that.) Etymology and philology fascinate me, but I'm not a grammar nazi. I am interested in pretty much everything, for example but not limited to: books, world events/issues, art, science, politics, philosophy, religion, DIY, cooking, education, the environment, global aid, etc. I look upon people who understand math and computer programming with the awe a tenth century peasant might feel for a royal sorcerer. Studied writing and literature in college, now stay at home with my two giant and energetic children (chiropractic, please?) I'm a Christian who knows that Jesus hates world suck as much as He loves the world and everyone in it.

"Human nature being what it is, battles for supremacy would break out before too long--nerdly awesomeness aside--and a series of long, painful, and flaccid wars would ensue.
Death by slapfight.

I have to admit, I am kind of scandelized by this story. Nevermind the fact that he was complete ignorant of biblical history (let's face it, most people are), I'm just shocked that he had the audacity to make the class write anti-Christian poetry. Can instructors do that? What did you end up doing?
I'm really into name etymology too. Knowing what people's names mean can be good ice-breaker. I have to admit to being somewhat self-satisfied whenever I tell a girl what her name means and she's like, "Yeah! How did you know that??" I usually shrug and smile and say, "I know names." :)
