Puddleglum's Wager, fandom, and fantasy

I've been on a total Narnia kick recently, reading the series for the first time all the way through. One of the most interesting moments in the book is ostensibly the climax of The Silver Chair, when Puddleglum, the morose Marsh-wiggle, delivers a particularly stirring speech. For anyone who hasn't read The Silver Chair, here is the speech.Suppose we have only dreamed, or made up, all those things-trees and grass and sun and moon and stars and Aslan himself. Suppose we have. Then all I can say…See More

Broken Heart Cures

Dear friends,Without getting too minutely specific, I went through a painful breakup fairly recently that is still giving me pangs of lonesomeness, sometimes to the point where I am losing sleep, getting very depressed, etc. I was wondering if any of you have had similar experiences and/or learned any tips and tricks you would like to share regarding how to get on the mend. I realize that no one here will have a magic bullet instant cure, I deeply believe that time heals all wounds and wounds…See More

Giggin' with the GuiTARDIS

First off, to any UMass Nerdfighters out there, a big thank you from the bottom of both my hearts for your excellent welcome and your kind feedback. Thanks are specifically due to my lover, Missy, who steadfastly hung in there for me and videoed my performance, and the Game Hobbyists' League, who put it on- quite specifically, the members on duty on the last day of the con, who let me do my thing while herding gamers around. Not an easy task.It went fairly well, though I admit, I botched a few…See More

Dr. Josh and the GuiTARDIS

When I went to ConBust this year, I had something of a silly idea. I decided I would put a homemade TARDIS decal on my blue guitar, accessorize with a bow tie, and cosplay as Dr. Josh and the GuiTARDIS. I expected the pun to cause some head-slaps, maybe some groans and possibly a squee here and there, but I did not expect anything anywhere near the response I got.

People seemed to enjoy the concept. I saw some major…

For the children of Nerdfighteria

Last night, I had a vision. It was inscribed in perfect CopperPlate font onto my frontal lobe across two bus rides and three hours. MY vision was simply this - an illustrated storybook explaining either geek culture generally or at the very least the nerdfighter ethos to the young 'uns. I originally concieved this as a present for young Henry Green, but then I thought there must be quite a few teeny-tiny nerdfighters-in-training out there who could also enjoy such a book.…

Yeah, I had a story flying around my head for a while, so I decided to write it down. I'll link you, if you like - http://www.authonomy.com/books/41486/slinker-evasion/

Just a note: There is another book, this time non-fiction, which I have already finished and am now pushing for publication - http://www.authonomy.com/books/38422/the-chemo-diaries/
