Back to the Grind, Comic Books, and Autum Playlist

I could survive for 1 minute, 38 seconds chained to a bunk bed with a velociraptor

Sorry the posts have been so lame, but I have gone right back to working my tail off at work. I have begun my first multi class period project. Its all about superheroes and thier powers. Students already know about Ironman, The Incredible Hulk, X-men (although they can name a… Continue

Hitchhikers, Manta Rays, and Pahoa

I have been going north past Kona to find some beaches lately. Generally there are hardly any buildings and beautiful beaches... filled to the brim with tourists.

I picked up some hitch hikers on the way back from the beach after my day was foiled by the clouds that seem to be occupying the Kona side of the island almost everyday. Hilo is supposed to be the wet side, but so far the weather held up better over there.

Turns out the hitch hikers where a couple from Portland… Continue

Captain Cook (the city), Mark Twain, and Sea Turtles!

More on the Biker party. I ended up staying for something like 5 hours. Before I knew it I was being introduced to various members of the club by Timmy Moore who was very friendly and very drunk. One of the few white folks there, it turned out that he was dating one of the officer's daughter.

I met a biker who is deaf and mute. He was really rad. He had to talk via mummbling and gesturing, and we got along famously as it was not all that different that speaking with my students.… Continue

Adios Hilo

I am about to leave Hilo. Despite it being only my first stop and that I hardly left the city limits I feel a bit sad leaving it. There is still so much that I could do here, although most of those things revolve trying out the many great restraunts here.

Yesterday I ventured back to Richardson Park and found some tide pools that I was able to enjoy entirely alone. Later I went to some nearby waterfalls and took a dip. The locals have been warning me about how dangerous waterfalls… Continue

EPIK Orientation and Aloha from Hilo

EPIK Orientation was great. It was so invigorating being around all the new teachers. My presentations went well and I was shocked by how well they were recieved by the new teachers, who turned out to be ravenous for information. I met some wonderful people and greatly appreciated the positive energy.

I was talking with the manager on the last night. He could not speak much English but it turned out he spoke fluent Japanese. After asking me about what I thought of the orientation in… Continue

Hi Justino,

Thanks for adding me as a friend. Feel free to check out Ningxia Dragon Student Ambassadors. It's a site dedicated to students, teachers, and educators interested in cultural exchange programs to northwest China.

Let me know what you think, Hector

I'm sorry about the work load. I hope things ease up. Do you have any vacation plans?

My only concern is my Internet connection. It's really crappy in my new place, and I have to go to a coffee shop with WiFI to check my email. Other than that (minor) glitch, I would be happy to help. My email is rsgrox@aol.com. I also have a Facebook, if that helps.
Thanks for considering me!
Other than that, how are you doing?

I'll think about it, but put me on the shortlist. School's pretty hectic at the moment what with university open days and preferences, but I'll talk to some people about it. I have some friends who might be interested, so I'll talk to some of them about it tomorrow.

lol

Are you playing in the photo contest this month? Just asking, because I have to close it in a few hours!

Yikes? No iTunes? Where's your billing address? Can't you just hide with a proxy server? That is stupid.

Can you get someone to mail it to you? It's probably cheaper than international shipping with fedex.

Thanks for the help. It was unexpected but really thoughtful. I've thought about my options, and right now my education and staying near home (but not too close) are top priorities. I am 95% sure I'm going to go to Santa Barbara for community college, then transfer to UCLA or UC Berkley. I think once I stay focused on classes and my degree, then I can join those organization without fear of ineptitude. You've been really supportive, and I can't thank you enough for your advice. If I change my mind, I'll definitely ask for help. Again, thanks. Talk to you later, Romy

hello! it's been awhile since we last talked, and i just wanted to know how you're doing. i also wanted to let you know that i applied to the peace corps...but got rejected :( i know, you'd think an organization that upholds service from all citizens would accept a good student, person, and worker. oh well...

hope everything's good with you and that you're having a good summer. talk to you soon, Romy
