MONDAY RANT: Just Smile, F%$*@ers!

MONDAY RANT:Just Smile, F%$*@ers!     So, I've been keeping this rant under my hat a bit since December.  After the devastating Sandy Hook shooting, it made sense that reactions flared up about mental illness.  However, it seems like the taboo of mental illness was just a scab waiting to be picked.  Despite the fact that a huge majority of people in this world have suffered from some form of depression,…See More

Laundromats: Clean Clothes, Dirty People

from retroplanet.comThere are many ways in which the media lies to us.  Disney convinces women that a Prince Charming is around every corner. News reports air only the most sensationalized reports, leading us to believe that our life is in danger (unless you buy our sponsored products!).  The most damning lie, however, is about laundromats.   If you believe Hollywood, the laundromat is one…See More

What Kind of Nerdfighter Are You?
A paradoxical nerdfighter
About Me:
I am a writer, pop-culture obsessive, and too full of opinions for my own good. I love Disneyland but am inexplicably obsessed with serial murder.
Favorite Books, Movies, Music, and more
Books: I'm a sucker for anything Nancy Drew and still harbor the delusion that I can somehow ghostwrite them if I publish enough. That being said, my favorite books are Half Asleep in Frog Pjamas by Tom Robbins, Einstein's Dreams by Alan Lightman, Bloodsucking Fiends: A Love Story by Christopher Moore and The Princess Diaries Series by Meg Cabot.
Movies: Charade, Silence of the Lambs, Mulan (for some reason I can't really explain), The Royal Tennenbaums, Breakfast at Tiffany's, People Will Talk, Garden State, Amelie
TV: The X-Files, Gilmore Girls, Buffy, Arrested Development, the West Wing, Twin Peaks, Futurama, The Simpsons (all of it...those who stopped watching after season 10 simply don't love it enough) and Scrubs
Music: Billie Holiday, Chopin, Andrew Bird, AC/DC, Rocket from the Crypt, Leonard Cohen, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Jump, Little Children, They Might be Giants, Tori Amos
What's your favorite thing to put on your head?
My super warm monster hat with three eyes
If you could do your happy dance with anyone who would it be with?
My husband, equally nerdy though in a way math-ier way
When did you start watching the Vlogbrothers?
Last year...still catching up
Make up your own DFTBA initialism!

What I learned from Paper Towns by John Green: A Contemplation in Six Parts

[Caution: contains spoilers]

Right off the bat, I will tell you this:  I loved Paper Towns.  Between this and The Fault in Our Stars (a.k.a. TFIOS), John Green manages to create a book that is quite actually depressing but somehow funny and entertaining.  TFIOS is, of course,…

An Abundance of Katherines by John Green: Interesting (*1)

Just four years ago, I was diagnosed with a disease.  Well, full disclosure, I've been diagnosed with MANY diseases, but this is by far the most tragic, for it affects my everyday life.  This disease is TMORD, or Television and Movie Over-Referencing Disorder.

Do you have trouble making a simple analogy without…
