What Kind of Nerdfighter Are You?
I like books, theatre, music and well, most things.
About Me:
I'm Kate, but strange people call me Kitty. I like books way too much. The same goes for anything by Simon and Garfunkel. I have a weird habit of memorising quotes and poems and recalling them at innappropriate times. I try to decrease worldsuck, 'cause doing things to help people or the world validates my insecurities.
Favorite Books, Movies, Music, and more
Anything written by Terry Pratchett, Scott Westerfeld, Val McDermid, or Reginald Hill; To Kill a Mockingbird, Thirsty, Valiant/Ironside, Looking for Alaska, The Girl Most Likely, The Book Thief, The Picture of Dorian Gray, Maximum Ride, and I Am America (And So Can You). I like books about vampires and zombies and teenagers and powers and psychopaths and magic and detectives and funny things.
What's your favorite thing to put on your head?
A lightbulb (energy efficient turny one, mind).
If you could do your happy dance with anyone who would it be with?
Every nerdfighter ever- at ONCE. Trippy.
When did you start watching B20

Okay, so I fail...

I realize that I know maybe 9 or 10 poems off by heart. That's really not going to last long. So now I promise that even if I don't know a poem perfectly, only to take poems from my personal handwritten poem/quote/ihavetoomuchsparetimegoddammit book.

Here's a Japanese poem/snippet/thing, translated into english by G .Bownas [I think].

Lady Heguri
A thousand years, you said,
as our hearts melted.
I look at the hand you held,
and the ache is hard to bear.

I feel the need to share...

because sharing is good, or something. My only real talent, ladies and gents, is my bizarre knack of memorizing poems and quotes. It is, of course, completely useless in any practical way -- my maths teacher doesn't really care about Lady Astor's last words (Am I dying or is it my birthday?[correct me if I'm wrong]). So like all useless things, I feel this talent deserves the interweb. So, if I actually stick with this, each week I will blog a poem or two or some quotes. *I promise these are fro… Continue

Hey.
Sorry it took me so long to get back to you, but I've been busy. Anyway, consciousness. I think that question is best answered by another question: what is real? Well, it seems to me that the only things that are real are the corporeal; what is physically extant. But the mind is intangible, at the same time. So Sartre was probably close when he said that the "soul" is nothing; an absence of being; the thing-for-itself. So, "consciousness" is not anything, at least in the way that a chair is a chair, or a ball is a ball. It is nothing; merely a void. Now, of course, Cogito Ergo Sum is still very true - it must be - but that is spiritual, not physical. It is outside of this plane, outside of spacetime, as per Einstein's Theory of Special Relativity. Not that there must necessarily be such a thing as a soul, in the christian sense - this proves nothing about God. That's something different all together.

Hey!

Aww thanks, ya I'm pretty happy with my music on my profile. I bet you can see the Australian influence on it. I'm actually going to go to a concert in about a month with Missy Higgins, Brett Dennen and Mason Jennings. It should be pretty awesome. I really hope that Cat Empire come to America some day.

You have some pretty cool books too, though what "books about vampires and zombies and teenagers and powers and psychopaths and magic and detectives and funny things" have you read.

Well I guess that I'm a wannabe Australian because I lived there for a year and now I want to go back.

I have no idea why we're not only friends! You'd think that two existentialists would be bound by fate to meet... Or, actually, maybe it's poetic justice that we're not. And I'm glad someone else gets my Sartre jokes.

Now, I'd be glad to leave a brief justification of the ontological necessity of modern man's existential dilemma, but first I must know exactly which existential dilemma you're referring to (I suppose this isn't making me look well informed, but it's a bit of a colloquialism).
