What Kind of Nerdfighter Are You?
The kind that doesn't like labels :-)
About Me:
Basics:

- I'm 28.... so I can still get away with saying I'm in my mid-twenties, right? Right?
- I'm female
- my name is Charlotte, Nephtys is a name I've been using on teh interwebz since I was about 13 and had an ancient Egypt obsession
- I'm half Dutch/half English and have lived in the Netherlands all my life
- I own two very cool cats, Pumpkin and Pingu. They're both boys, and are about 1,5 years old at this point. Before them, we had Duvel, another tomcat made of pure awesome.
- I have a degree in conflict studies & political science, and work for an NGO in the field of conflict prevention and peacebuilding
- In addition to wanting to reduce word suck by preventing violent conflict I'm concerned about biased/prejudicial news reporting. I've done research on it but would like to do something more active about it.
- Three friends and I run a tiny foundation that gives financial support to a primary school in Nepal
- I love to read
- I love to cook and eat, but I don't eat meat - do eat fish sometimes. Fish are bastards anyway :-) (nooooo not really, I can't justify it, all the reasons I don't want to eat meat could also be applied to fish... I'm just inconsistent)
- I like various forms of juggling, especially poi, but haven't been doing it enough lately. I am SO going to the next European Juggling Convention, in Basque country
- comfort over looks ALWAYS in clothing & shoe choice... I also hate formal wear and thankfully don't need to wear it often for work
- when I have time I make stuff. Various random kinds of stuff. Stuff that I happen to need or want and don't want a mass-produced version of. I've made or re-made clothes (but i'm not terribly good at that), I have a thing about making lampshades, I've made various wine bottle stoppers with dragons, trolls, and in one case a cat (for my grandma) on them, my profile pic is a tree-shaped stand I made for acrylic contact juggling balls. Current project is yet another lampshade (they tend to have quite a short life span due to the juggling and cats)
- I don't own a tv and love not owning a tv, but I watch a lot of interwebz
- I am seriously, SERIOUSLY addicted to coffee
Favorite Books, Movies, Music, and more
There are sooooo many I'm probably forgetting a good few, but here's a selection anyway:

Book no. 4: Flat Earth News - and Abidjan!!!

Oh dear, only four books complete and it's February 7th already! Eek! As I said before though, Flat Earth News by Nick Davies is non-fiction, and that tends to take me longer to read than fiction does. That is not to say though, that the book wasn't absolutely fascinating (and terrifying). I'm going to direct you here for a review that covers a lot of the content,… Continue

Book challenge update

Uh-oh. I knew I wouldn't be able to keep up the pace once I went back to work! Finished (and loved) 'Everything is Illuminated', and am still working on "Flat Earth News". Factors that aren't helping:

1) I never read non-fiction as quickly as I do fiction, and though 'Flat Earth News' is fascinating and well-written, it just doesn't have that "Oh-my-god-I-HAVE-to-know-what-happens-next-even-though-I-have-to-get-up-and-go-to-work-in-two-hours"-thing going for it.

2) Damn you, Ning! And damn you… Continue

Ahoy there, I know this is very random and quite out of the blue but... do you happen to have have a video camera or similar that can make quick, short videos?

Yes. I wouldn't want to say much about it. I was not important enough to be monitor yet, but need to be very careful. And yes, I tried to work in the HR field. Not so easy with a paranoid government.

Hahaha, oh, I'm fine, but I wish I could say the same for the UK. If it's not doomsdayers and their oink-barf predictions it's people watching cricket. And I'm not sure which is worse :D

And *wish made*. Now we can only hope :D

Hi! I followed you here from your comment on my introduction in the New Nerdfighters discussion. I see you are working for an NGO in conflict prevention. I'm only in my first year of university but that is totally something I would love to do once I graduate. Hopefully you can tell me a bit about what it's like...
