Harvard Nerdfighters?

Are you out there? I'm an incoming frosh and I'd like to have a Nerdfighter base before I get there. So... what's going on, Harvard?

Profile Information

What Kind of Nerdfighter Are You?
English (literature and grammar), mostly. History as well, though. I'm also very into sci-fi, so probably that as well.
About Me:
I love music and English and my boyfriend is Shakespeare.
Any questions?
Seriously, though, being a nerd is great fun. It takes a lot of pressure off in terms of caring what others think of you and knowing things such as what color is this year's black. I don't have to be anything other than myself because I don't care about fitting in.

Find me in My Pants: Snuffles PF
Favorite Books, Movies, Music, and more
A Great and Terrible Beauty (and other subsequent books) by Libba Bray
A Song of Ice and Fire by George RR Martin
Anything by Roald Dahl
Basically, every book ever except book 6 and the epilogue of Harry Potter and anything by Melissa de la Cruz
What's your favorite thing to put on your head?
Good question. My answer would have to be... socks.
If you could do your happy dance with anyone who would it be with?
Another good question. Laura, of course. And, after reading Laura's, Libba Bray. At the same time. Which I, in retrospect, did not and should have on April 5th. :( BUT MEETING LIBBA BRAY WAS ONE OF THE MOST AWESOME EXPERIENCES OF MY LIFE.

Do you seriously not know how Netflix works?

I've never wasted so much time in my entire life.

I should be doing research for an English paper due in a few weeks, or possibly practicing for my concert tonight. Am I doing either of those things? No! I'm not! So I said to myself, "Self," because that's what I call myself, "why do you insist on procrastinating so? There are many things that are worthwhile that you could be doing; what are you doing now that's so important?"

You take off that shirt or I will take it off for you, sir!

So I just changed my profile picture. It's a couple of years old, but I love the expression on my face. It's like, "WTF? Why is there a monkey attacking my Spanish teacher?" Okay, maybe not quite that severe, but still. I seem shocked/confused about something. I only wish I could remember what that something is. Number one on my list of things to buy: Remembrall. *shakes proverbial camera* nerd jokes! nerd jokes!

I just started re-reading a book that I have and... it's… Continue

I remember thinking... I'm a little old for this. And I was 5.

Nerdfighters!!!! Wow... it's been so long since I've posted. I don't actually have anything to say, but I wanted to update to let my cult following (what? I totally have one. You just don't know) know I'm alive.

First order of business: THE FIRST NEW EPISODE OF DR. WHO WAS SO CRAZY! Anyone? Anyone? Bueller? Anyone?

Secondly, The Office. LONG LIVE JAM!

I have nothing to say other than ranting about TV shows and I have to go to history now, so... yeah. Please come… Continue

If this were my career, I'd have to throw myself in front of a train.

I just wanted to let everyone know the new word I learned today. That word is "camelopard." It's a cross between the words "camel" and "leopard" and it means... wait for it... GIRAFFE!!!! I swear this is a real word. It made my day.

Also, if anyone has any suggestions on how to get the random question game that I've been playing with lucky more widely publicized through Nerdfighteria, post it in the comments (there, there, and there's always the slight chance that it'll be over… Continue

You've only just seen The Unicorn and the Wasp? Oh dear; you've got a lot to come . . .

I really don't want to spoil it for you (yes, I know you said you can handle spoilers), but I suppose I could say this:

The next two episodes are probably the greatest episodes of Doctor Who I've ever seen. Honestly. Steven Moffat is a spectacular writer, and I'm so glad he's taking over the role of head writer. Midnight only aired yesterday over here, and it's also tremendous, and includes some of the greatest acting from David Tennant I've seen yet.

The last three episodes are being hushed up, obviously. But . . . *looks over his shoulder* . . . they do include Rose (obviously), Martha, the Daleks, and Davros (the creator of the Daleks). Not really that much is known about them (which is excellent, I think).

I'm guessing they actually air the episodes over there, then, seeing as you get them so late? You could always watch them online. They're up on YouTube if you can't wait. :)

I love Doctor Who! It's the best programme on television at the moment. There's nothing really much more to say but that. :)

I don't watch Torchwood, but I do watch Robin Hood. I think that's marvellous as well. It's so gripping, and generally a very, very good quality programme. I hope they make another series.

I can't wait for the finale of Doctor Who; it's undoubtedly going to be spectacular.

And . . . someone else who I probably shouldn't mention . . .

I'll definitely check out Tom's youtube page. The weather in L.A. has been wonderful, but I haven't had a chance to enjoy the beach :( I graduated on June 4 (OMG!!!!!!!) and it was beautiful. I'm really excited about life after high school. I totally understand the anti-studying reflex. And I'm sorry about the crazy weather. Hopefully it will change to your advantage.

Well, I've always been a Dumbledore/Madam Pince shipper, but seeing as he was homosexual it would never have happened. Apart from that, I suppose Ron/Hermione, which was by far the most obvious, and likely.

The epilogue ... Hmm ... Well, one has to remember that J. K. Rowling was under an immense amount of pressure to get everything right, and she really wanted to make everyone happy, as well as herself. I sometimes think that she might have been better off writing the books out of the public gaze, and then publishing them. Of course, this wouldn't have been very good for us, but it must be horrific to write under those conditions. Nevertheless, I do feel that the epilogue seemed a bit ... rushed. The names are slightly odd, and the plot was a bit cheesy. But it's how she chose to end it, and I'm happy with that.

Pride and Prejudice is a wonderful book, it truly is. It is fantastically structured: everything has its place and its consequences, and the language is sublime. I am neither an English teacher nor a heterosexual female, but I can certainly appreciate the book's beauty. The plot is, of course, wonderful, and so well-developed. I don't really want to sound too much like I'm writing an English Literature essay, so I'll simply say that it is magnificent, and will undoubtedly remain one of the greatest books ever written for a very long time. The delicacy of style and subtlety of the romance, and yet at the same time the fervour of it, is something which is unparalleled.

Anyway, you can tell that I love it.

Thank you for the birthday wishes, by the way. I had a wonderful time.

Approved. :)

I really want to read A Clockwork Orange, but I always get distracted by other books. It's a shame, but I should suppose I will read it at some point.

I do like the Beatles a lot. When it comes to 'song' music, I'm rather picky: I'm more of an 'instrumental' music person, really, i.e. classical music (but not the awful classical music which so many people think of when they hear those words). Chopin was a master, and his music drives me. Debussy's music, also, is spectacular, and the modern composer Dario Marianelli is glorious; he composed the soundtracks to Atonement and Pride & Prejudice.

Oddly enough, however, wizard rock comes into my taste in music, with honourable mentions including the Parselmouths, the Moaning Myrtles, and Oliver Boyd and the Remembralls. Bob Dylan, Paul Weller, Sammy Davis Junior, Jamie Cullum, and (don't laugh) James Blunt, are amongst my favourites in the general world of song.
