And if you don't mind me asking, how did you discover I was a pirate?
Biologically, the mechanisms that made people reproduce more efficiently aren't conscious. What we know consciously doesn't necessarily have an effect on our subconscious attractions: Guys want sex--but that doesn't mean that we want to reproduce. It's just an easier biological mechanism to make sex pleasurable.
I should also point out that monogamy is not as natural of a thing as we make it out to be. It has more to do with society and culture than it does with biology.
