Sarah H commented on Katie S's blog post Gettin' personal, yippee!I was having an argument with my best friend recently. We were talking on the phone at about 5:00 pm. I wanted her to come over to my place and hang out.
“Sure,” she said, “in a little while. My Mom's just making breakfast.” My contention was that she was not eating breakfast at all, and that at best she was engaging in a very late lunch. Her arguments were simple:
1. It was to be the first meal of the day for those eating it – they were “breaking their fast,” thus fulfilling…

When you think of a Canadian sports enthusiast, you probably imagine a hockey fan.* And they're certainly out there. A recent Huffington Post article suggested a link between rising sales of sex toys with the NHL lockout. But hockey, for all that is played and loved across this country, is not what pre-occupies the people of Saskatchewan.
In Saskatchewan,…

I am, as of this morning, finished my first academic year as a teaching assistant at my University. The experience was often challenging, often boring, often stressful, but I definitely learned a heck of a lot. Some of what I learned may be relevant to nerdfighters who are nearing the ends of their semesters, handing in papers and writing finals, so I thought I'd share. Ok, so that's not really the reason. Sorry nerdfighters, it's not you, it's me.

So I am reading this article ("The Concept of Cultural Translation" by Talal Asad in Writing Culture edited by James Clifford and George E. Marcus) and I wish I could recommend it. I mean, it's of a great deal of use to me, an aspiring ethnographer interested in the idea of a culture as text and what that means in terms of relativism and representing the coherence of ideas that might seem absurd, but I know that isn't everybody.
The…

Sarah Hickox said… Thanks for your comment on my video. I'm probably a teensy bit biased toward the TARDIS. ;) You make some good points, but I'm probably still more of the vagabond type. DFTBA!

Elliott George Edwards said… Hello Sarah. Sorry for the slow response, but you commented on my vlog asking why I liked David Bowie so much so I feel like I need to get back to you.
To be honest, it does surprise me how much I like Bowie when looking at other types of music that I like. I tend to like pop/rock or electronic and really upbeat in most circumstances, but there is something in the way that Bowie sings that sounds very passionate and truthful to me and if I just sit and listen, I feel alittle emotional. I'm not sure why exactly, it just does :P
Hope that answered the question ^_^
