www.airmp3.net has free downloads. Whether they're free is anyone's guess since it just mp3 search engine deal.
ShockHound also has some free mp3 downloads from well known and not so well known artists here I rather like using ShockHound in general…
I would've suggested www.spotify.com but they're in beta at the moment and not accepting any more peoples. Ah well. Maybe when it gets out of beta.
I know it's already been posted but Jamendo.com is amazing; heaps and heaps of music for free download a lot of it you can even remix or stick to a video or do what ever you want to do with it.
You beat me to it, but I'm going to repost it because I love Jamendo so.
Look for things under creative commons liscences. That way you can get it legally.

Adventure
Today my friend Katie and I went on an adventure.We walked up to the record store and looked though all the used records and were upset when I realized, after calling both of my parents, that I do not actually own a record player. It was very depressing; there was a copy of Grease for only three dollars.
