What Kind of Nerdfighter Are You?: the old kind, who procrastinates? OR...i'm a complex nerd. i'm a booknerd, artnerd, arthistorynerd, petnerd, wordnerd, humanrightsnerd, musicnerd, current eventsnerd ... OH... and of course, a dmbnerd. dave matthews band. yes, i'm one of those :)

About Me:: Well, I am married, 35 (OMG i still feel 7, 14, 17, 23... depending on the day), live in Ottawa (CANADA) with our 2 dogs Frank & Josie whom we lovingly refer to as the Evil Hound Sisters, a small black girl-cat named Harper, and a bad-bad boy cat named Iggy.

I love to read, write, paint, garden, see live music, watch great films, and am debating continuing my pursuit of education (BA, Art History and Anthropology `96) . I'm totally digging an Art Therapy course i finished recently and hope to one day learn & use it with children. I love art, painting, printmaking... i love my art journal, and I want to have an art vlog by Jan 1. 2009.

I believe the afternoon nap is highly under rated and that people really should just Live and Let Live. Life right now is pretty strange and finding the equilibrium seems to be the name of the game - change is in the air for sure.

I love music, specifically the Dave Matthews Band. Dave DAVE DaVe dAvE. Dave Matthews. And all the boys in his band. Yes I'm one of those.
Other than DMB? ok, there is Lenny Kravitz, - the epitome of cool, Sarah Slean, Sarah Harmer, Cat Power, Feist, the Arcade Fire, Moby, Matthew Good, Esthero, Foo Fighters, Pilate, Gwen Stefani, Jeff Buckley, Pink, Justin Timberlake, Pete Yorn, good ol' Big Wreck, Treble Charger, the Headstones & the Watchmen, Coldplay, David Gray, Frank Sinatra, REM, Van Morrison, Queen, Alicia Keys, Esthero, the Smiths, Paul Simon, the Doors, Bob Marley of course... again I could go on and on. I love music and prescribe to the idea that if you remember the music, you remember the times. One day SOON I'll start a soundtrack of my life :)

Interests: My husband, my family, friends, reading, changing careers, spirituality, friends, history, documentaries, CBC, BBC, religion, anthropology, art, demographics, international development, Human Rights, peace, children, Africa. I could go on and on and on....The role of media, nerdfighting, public art, politics, HIV, international affairs, aboriginal rights and human rights of women and children etc... etc....

I have to admit, I am irritated by some small (ok, and LARGE) things, and can be pretty intense about social responsibility, so I wonder a lot about why people do the things they do, mostly in relation to power and gender. I'm a wandering sociologist through and through and very excited to see where the Journey takes me next.

I'm doing ok. Adjusting to a different world again. I swear, the universe shifts a little when someone wonderful dies, and everything feels off-kilter for a while. I know things never REALLY go back to being the same, but the new world starts to feel more familiar eventually.

I've done this enough times already that I know how this goes, and I can recognize my process from a distance. It's almost like the more you experience this kind of thing, the bigger "the big picture" gets and I can see it with greater perspective. It makes it easier not to get so locked up and caught up in myself.

I'm not despairing, as I did when my sweet Honza died three years ago (last month), since now I do know things normalize eventually. But having done this before also makes it a little bit harder sometimes. The feelings only last a moment, but every once in a while I feel like maybe I shouldn't get attached like that again. Those moments pass quickly, though.

Overall, I'm doing pretty well. I don't have the local support I expected, but I also didn't reach out much this time around. I really tried to focus on DW's support, and looking back, I can see I didn't do a lot of outreach for myself.

I have pictures of DW after he died.... which I know A LOT of people would be REALLY REALLY REALLY uncomfortable with, but it helps me. I learned that when Honza died; having pictures of his body helped. I found it comforting AND it helped me to really accept that he was no longer there. You can SEE that it's only the vehicle that is left... the spirit is no longer in there. I still feel DW around though, and I hear his voice... literally, sometimes. It's nice.

Anyway, about the pictures.... in one of them, Butch-pup is all sprawled out against his body. I love it. I won't post them here, though. People definitely react strongly when I even mention the photos, but I figured you would understand. :)

Ok, I think this is long enough. I'll send you my address in a message. Thanks again for the camera, and don't worry so much about the delay, chica! I will be happy to get it; I'm trying to figure out when I'll head out, since there is a lot to take care of and a lot of expenses, as you can imagine.

Anyway, take care, and thank you for being so supportive of some chick that lives far away who you haven't even met. You are an amazing creature, and I love you.
