Having been through both and being able to look back, I think there is typically just one main jerk and then that jerk's followers are just afraid to not follow and be bullied by the head jerk. So you have one main jerk surrounded by a bunch of little scardy cat jerks preying on those who shy, studious, and/or awkward. Then, there are those, like yourself who take a stand. People like you are rare, but really there need to be more. If so, maybe a lot less of the introverted teens would take it on themselves. Kudos to you for taking a stand. I have to admit to not exactly being one who spoke up. I was very introverted, and still am, but I was also on the debate team (Just a tad contradictory). Having that group of fun and intelligent people saved me in high school. I think the key to survival is having at least one person who will tell you that popularity is not essential.

You should totally listen to Home by Edward Sharpe&TMZ, Helplessness Blues by Fleet Foxes, Bad In Each Other by Feist, Oberhofer is a new band and they aren't very big, But they are on youtube and myspace. My favorite song of theirs is Landline, but their most recent song Ran In Two is really good. The Black Key's album brothers is amazing if you're really into rock. Beastie Boys, The Ramones, Cheap Trick, And The Kinks are all pretty old. Group Love has an awesome sound! Listen to their song Colors! Beastie Boys are from like the 80's (they're rap), Cheap Trick is from the 70s, and The Ramones and The Kinks are from 60's - 70's ish i guess.

The Shins are more recent though I haven't heard of them coming out with another album. All their songs are really good.
