"There's what we personally value, what we need as a community for practical reasons, and whether or not this happens to be the same as other people (living and dead).   Perhaps we're asking the wrong questions, or need to clarify…"

Vertigo_One [Ops Mod] replied to Simon's discussion Is religion a force for good in the world?
"True, but that doesn't change the fact that most people fail to see such a difference. Religion puts destructive ideas in place all the time, and once they've taken root, people cling to them. I disagree. People have destructive ideas and…"

Abreo replied to Simon's discussion Do we owe anything to the dead ... ?
"Even in death, the will of a person matters a great deal. Maybe not to you, but it did to them, before they died. Even if my beliefs are wrong, and there is nothing after this world for us, the will and wishes is amazingly important. It is that last…"

Rachael Kerr replied to Simon's discussion Do we owe anything to the dead ... ?
"I have to disagree with your second point (about owing absolutely nothing to the dead). A society that does not recognize the respect they owe to the dead (in terms of knowledge gained, financial resources acquired) is a society that does not move…"

I thought that the topic about religion that you posted was really, really, interesting.  Religion is such a fascinating and complex subject that is so engrossing to talk about because there are so many perspectives.  Good job!
