Charles W Video Blog Episode #038
Charity and Punishment
Recorded on 01/31/10
In this episode, I discuss my yearly fundraising effort for Big Brothers Big Sisters, my diet, and why I didn’t post my video review of Avatar. I also discuss a punishment for not posting my video on Thursday.
In case you haven't heard, in the past week J.D. Salinger passed away at the age of 91. I was reading a small article about Salinger and at the end was an external link they led me to a list of banned books. This got me thinking about how stupid banning books is. In honor of Salinger and all writers who at some point got their books banned or challenged, I'm going to put some of the books that I've read and why it is banned, unless I honestly don't know or can't find out why.
Wherein I have a conversation with myself and spill some milk.

All, right, so I'm amending a little something -- I just don't have the time to write in-depth reviews for all the new books I read, mainly because that's all I'm going to be reading for the foreseeable future. So, I'm going to do for all the books what I was originally going to do just for the rereads. Sorry, but I don't really think anyone will be too terribly disappointed. :)

I'm going to talk about an incident that happened to me during my sophomore year. You can probably tell from the title that it has something to do with falling down.
In my sophomore year, I played bass drum in marching band. I played bass drum the year before, too, and I enjoyed playing bass drum. My bass drum was the second highest, so it wasn't that difficult to carry. On the particular night in question, we were performing a halftime show. One important thing to know is that bass… Continue
Wednesday, Oprah hosted Michael Pollan author and food expert to talk about his latest book, Food Rules, and the Documentary Food, Inc. which takes a behind the scenes look at the industrial food system and how we eat in America. Oprah praised the film on the show as "eye-opening and thought-provoking." One of Oprah's favorite aspects of the film was how empowering the film was to individual people: "the consumer really is the biggest voice behind whether or not there will be change or not,… Continue

Think about what you are going to do before you do it. Sometimes life will drop a stranger in need in your lap, (although I hope its not literally) but most of the time you need to plan ahead.
For my next 31 days, I've already planned for 15 things.
By planning I mean have a general idea of what you want to do.
I changed the name from Be Nice to a Stranger to Project Nice, because it’s a project and you need to be nice.
Goal: Do something nice for someone else and by doing this you will make their day a little better. It doesn’t have to be a stranger, but being nice to someone you will most likely never see or hear from again makes the action a little be more meaningful.
You mention Nestlé Fairtrade KitKat, so let me put that in context, because Nestlé is everything that Green & Black's is not.
Nestlé's 'commitment' to Fair Trade cocoa is tiny. This involves just 1% of its coca purchase and is being used for Public Relations purposes to divert attention from the following facts.
Nestlé has been taken to court in the US for failing to act on a 2001 agreement to end… Continue

After guns and the Iraq war, Michael Moore is now taking on an entire political and economic system in his latest documentary, Capitalism: A Love Story. So what message does the man who once planned to become a priest have?

This evening, my orchestra teacher took a few of us out to see the Portland Cello Project.
We left at 6:15 and meant to get there by 7:40. It took place in a cafe called the "Red Room" in Kennewick Washington.
The four of us walked into a dimly lit room where coral-shaped lamps hung from the ceiling and cast shades of crimson and sapphire and flaming orange all over the walls and floor.
After paying for our tickets and getting our hands stamped, we went to sit in front…
Hello again everyone! I usually have something interesting to discuss before the threads, but I can't seem to think of anything. I've been thinking lately about too many things to explain here: life, love, purpose.. What is on your mind? Any big revelations or problems in your life? Is all well and good? Is all terribad? I hope nerdfighteria can help wherever needed.
When it's NOT ok to be on your cellphone
I get it. I really do. We live in a society where we HAVE to be in CONSTANT communication with everyone.
However I think we've crossed a line.
Today I was going to use the public restroom. I walk in an mentally groan because someone else was in the other stall. I HATE having to go to the… Continue
