Wrong but Right and Pantsless in Amsterdam: Thoughts from Places

(It occurred to me while editing that you are not actually able to confirm that I ever put on pants.) In which John travels to Amsterdam--where he lived for two months while finishing The Fault in Our Stars--to promote the Dutch edition of the book. Along the way he visits places that were important to him and to the made-up people in his novel, including the Spui Square,…

Charity, I Choose You!

Whilst growing up, one of the biggest impacts on my earlier years was a little anime called Pokemon, heard of it? Whether it was waking up extra early to watch Pokemon on SM:TV Live Saturday morning, going to school and playing with the trading cards or playing the legendary games Blue and Red. It's safe to say it played a massive part in my childhood xD. So turn forward time to just under a year ago, when a guy comes into the Ning chat, and announces a little project he has going with a few…

Disgusting Cookies - The 2012 Hungry Games

Hank and Michael make some really disgusting and really amazing cookies, and then they play Hungry Hungry Hippos to decide who eats which cookie. All in honor of the release of a great movie (based on a great book.)

If you haven't seen the Hunger Games, I heartily suggest it...that is, as long as you read it first :-p

Sorry this video is a bit disjointed in…

TDKR: Catwoman and Madame Defarge

Listen, Jena, don’t take this the wrong way, but I’ve been thinking quite a bit about Anne Hathaway. Since Nolan cited A Tale of Two Cities as chief inspiration for The Dark Knight Rises (TDKR), it’s hard to miss the shades of Madame Defarge, that Dickensian revolutionary, in Anne Hathoway’s Catwoman. Just going by the trailer, we see similarities in the way these two characters think and speak.

In the newest trailer for…

Exiting the FRIENDZONE

Have you been in the friendzone? Sucks, right? Well I've been around long enough to know what it's really about. And there's only one real solution...give up, either leave the relationship, or start acting like a real friend.

DIABLO III

For anyone who knows me, you know how obsessed I am with Diablo.

So it was a glorious day when they announced that it will be out in 2 months. That's right May 15th, 2012 the day we have been waiting for for more than 10 years. DiabloIII!

However some might be a little mift to hear about the missing PvP aspect, however if you are anything like me you could care less. All this means is you get to start out, learn the ropes, and hack-n-slash your way up through levels.…

But hopefully not today...

I disapprove of the capitalization, but then, Margo is worse.

That would be terrifying if it was real...

Book Review: Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children

Listen, Jena, old photographs are often beautiful and almost always creepy. I think they fall in the uncanny valley: convincingly human, but something in the color and unsmiling faces strikes us as alien. Ransom Riggs has taken the eerie, lonely feeling of looking at these images and made a book out of it: Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children. It's good but sadly, like every good detective novel, it solves all its mysteries and shows all its…

The Future of Manned Space Exploration

In which Hank discusses NASA's new Space Launch System (SLS) and the Orion space vehicle, which are (unlike the space shuttle) designed exclusively for deep-space missions to places including our moon, the asteroids, and Mars.

In other news, I also made a video about the Invisible Children / Kony 2012 campaign because, of course, how could I help myself. It will be at…

Please, No Moral to the Story

Listen, Jena, I don't like talking about the moral of Green Eggs and Ham. We all loved that book long, long before we realized the doctor was teaching us not to refuse new experiences. Now that I know, I can still enjoy the book, and even learn from it, but not if someone starts talking about its message or moral. Now that a film adaptation of The Lorax is in theaters, I'm seeing way too much about the movie's message and not enough about story, that…

Know Your News! Understanding the Syrian Revolution in Under 4 Minutes

In which John Green provides some historical context to the current civil war in Syria, discussing Syrian independence, the rise of the Ba'ath Party, Syria's relationship with the rest of the Arab world (and Russia), the Presidencies of Hafez al Assad and Bashar al Assad, the Arab Spring protests in Syria, and the many flags of the Syrian nation.

Also discussed, in…

The ToS, rules o' lovely rules!

Now, let's be honest.

When we join up to a site, buy and install a game, there's a bunch of rules and conditions that we agree to. Whether it be not to pirate the material, not to be a eejit and a cuif or whether or not you shall insert a clause into your will about giving your Scottish Ningmaster your fortune when I/he might have you offed.. - one of them is fake, chose wisely -.…

Overcoming Cancer

There is a “C” word which upon hearing it can illicit any number of negative emotions. Whether you have been through it yourself, or know someone who has suffered with it, nine times out of ten you will know someone. There are at least 200 different types in the world, which just plain sucks.  I have lost love ones to it myself in the past, and know at least part way of the grief it can bring.

But along comes one young man, aged 15, who has gone through it all, and come out…

So did you hear the Legend of the White Bunny?

It is said that the legend of the White Bunny will take place on Sunday, March 4th, in our very own chat.

No one knows if this is true, but you might want to keep an eye on it. The Legend dictates that whoever can catch the White Bunny in private chat will be given a very exclusive reward.

No one knows when exactlyit is coming. We only know it's this Sunday.

Catch it if…
