"This is probably the coolest thing that has ever happened to me." - Hank Green

That's the most amazing thing someone could say about one of my videos :-D

I titled this video "Using YouTube with a Purpose" because, really, this couldn't have been done without the help of a little website called YouTube and the community that is part of it (in particular the Nerdfighter community). From the donors… Continue

Notes on Being Manic

First, a note to those of you who couldn't make it. If you want to watch the (ridiculously long) liveblog I did today, you can check it out here.

But for those of you who were there, and for those of you who are curious (and also for myself) I wanted to spend some time thinking about that experience.

I think, the most interesting thing that I noticed, immediately, was in msyelf. Obviously I don't talk 1 million… Continue

Your Questions Answered

Sometimes, I take your questions from comments, and I answer them.

Q. What do you think of writers who have a formula, and write, for instance, a book a year, a la Danielle Steele?

A. Well, these days writing only one book a year seems downright quaint. (James Patterson, for instance, writes four or five books a day.) I have no problem with people who write the same book over and over again, but I'm glad I don't have their job. (I should add that many great books have been… Continue

More Ning, More of the Time

One of the things oft-suggested by nerdfighters in the comments to the "What Can I Do for You" video is that I can do more at the ning. I think this is a fine idea. Unfortunately, I'll never be able to spend as much time as I'd like making stuff on the ning, because I have to write and travel and do the other stuff associated with my job. (Nerdfighting, like most things that are made of awesome, is not financially lucrative.)

However, I am going to start posting text blogs to the… Continue

Favourite theme song? And REMINDER from Calvin

Please get involved.

Either in the raffle or the auction or simply sharing your favourite theme song :)

IT Crowd completely rocks ("Don't google the question"). I like this song. So much so that it is in fact my ring tone.

I would love to hear what your favourite theme songs are. Let me know in the comments, or if you are feeling energetic post a video response of yourself dancing around (like… Continue

Hank, John, and a Journey Through the Chittagong Hill-Tracts

This is what I mean when I say I want to "YouTube with a Purpose". If it wasn't for YouTube, most of you wouldn't be reading this. If it wasn't for YouTube, I'd never get to meet Hank and John Green. If it wasn't for YouTube, Hank would never have thought to donate to some guy with a crazy idea for a project in Bangladesh.

It was also YouTube that I kept in mind when thinking of how best to spend this donated money. Rick Davis, the teacher at… Continue
