Holy Jebus!

Do we really get our own personal NF blogs? I dare say this has got to be one of the most awesome things in the universe, but, alas, my very first post needs to be cut short as a mound of homework is attacking me.

WOOHOO! YEAH! I'M A NERDFIGHTER!

Poopy Nintendo Mystery SOLVED WITH SCIENCE

In which John discusses Neisser & Harsch's study of flashbulb memories and the memory-storage capacity of human brains in the context of a miniature dachshund pooping in a Nintendo.

For more info on the study and on flashbulb memories in general, check out the book "Affect and Accuracy in Recall: Studies of "Flashbulb" Memories," parts of which can be found online here:…

Day 171: Just a quickie

I have a few minutes here before supper, so I'm going to just write a quick blog today and do Review Wednesday tomorrow.

This past week has been fun. Exhausting, but fun. This is the first time Federation Band and Day Camp have gone together, so it's a new experience (and not one I would like to repeat). It seems interesting to me that I was bored for the weeks leading up to this week, and then all of a sudden I have several things to do at…

Eclipse Review (Shari style)

So, I went to the midnight premiere of Eclipse and I have to say: FAVORITE movie in the series so far...hopefully the don't muck up Breaking Dawn. Anywhoo.

The Good:
-Riley (Xavier Samuel) is HOTT!!
-ACTION, ACTION, ACTION! I loved watching vampires be ripped to shreds! Didn't quite have the sound effects described in the book, but it still worked.
-The new actress for Victoria (Bryce Dallas Howard) was great! Not quite as…

hey you there..yeah you.

dear,you-

Oliver pratt had a weak stomach. And the rancid smell of sewer was not helping to containg the bile creeping it's way into the world to join the rest of the trash and god knew what else. Oliver knew the streets above very well, and had walked them many times but here underneath them in the dark and surrounded by sewage everything seemed to look the same. Oliver was lost and guessing at every turn and fork .. after what seemed like hours of walking finally oliver saw a…

I'm writing a book.

Heres the beginning of the chapter:

An alarm buzzed loudly in my ear. I opened my eyes. I checked my bedside calendar. Ugh. Monday. I’m not sure why, but Mondays really suck. Maybe its because It’s the start of the week. Maybe I
just hate Mondays.

Stuffed and Starved by Raj Patel, Analysis of the Chapter 3, You Have Become Mexican

Chapter 3, You Have Become Mexican, is about the relationship between Mexico and the United States, specifically about the poverty in Mexico and its causes. Most American's would think that it is the Mexican's own fault that they are poor, with their corruption problems in government, drug lords, and lack of America's natural business savvy. Raj Patel makes a strong case that the real problems with Mexico actually lie in America, even in some of our attempts to help Mexico.

Oh my god. I get my own personal nerd blog. This is thrilling.

I'm not sure what I'd like to say at this time, really, but it's thrilling all the same!

I'll return to exploring now, I think.

The Lost Art of Movie Posters

here is an old saying: “Don’t judge a book by its cover.”

Unfortunately the same saying does not apply to movies. Audiences can

be drawn or diverted by the artwork splashed over a 27×41 inch canvas.

Bright colors, sexy people, and exotic places have all been used to

entice viewers into theater seats since the inception of Hollywood.

While these items seem essential to selling a movie, they’ve lacked the

bang that once helped to create the buzz in movie… Continue

Stabbed in the Brain: Phineas Gage

The Curious Case of Phineas Gage. A railway worker in the 1800s, a iron rod passed through his head, and he recovered almost fully in a matter of months. I just wanted to tell you the story, no analysis or anything...it's just amazing, take what you want from it.

I went to one of my friends sweet sixteen parties tonight.

Twas quite the shindig. Lots of good friends and dancin. Let me tell you how well I can do the Cupid Shuffle. Pretty damn well. That's right, Amanda Helaine Gallagher has a ghetto side. This is dangerous.

Day 169: Things That Amuse Me #12

Hello one and all to the next installment of Things That Amuse Me. For today's episode (episode?) I am going to talk about a group of people who like to blow stuff up.

Things That Amuse Me #12: The MythBusters

Well, OK, they do do a bit more than just blow things up, but that is something they like to do. The MythBusters originally consisted of Jamie Hyneman and Adam Savage. After a couple of years they added Kari Byron, Tory Bellici, and Scottie…

Well I'm not longer the only one..

For about the 11 or so months that I have been a Nerdfighter, I have thouht I was the only one in the small, island town of Friday Harbor; but as I found out on Staurday after I finished my volenteer shift at my local library and turned in my three book reveiws that wold get me a free book, I am not alone. As it turns out, the youth librarian is a Nerdfighter. I'm not exactly sure why I didn't think a librarian of all people whouldn't know about this. So now I believe a lucky young person…
