An Identity Through Awesome

Dear Nerdfigters:

Have you ever Googled yourself? Have you ever gotten some weird response about some random famous person who is either: gross, disgusting, a lawyer, or all three? And something in the back of your mind keeps saying "What can I do? What can I do to make a name for myself so that I'm the top response for my name, not some idiot who is married to some sports player or some weirdo with a website." I've always had this problem, seeing as Anna Benson is a "model", I use…

Thanks john

dear john,

I never was the kind of guy that read much,id rather play a videogame, watch TV or play rugby, but one day, as I was touring UK I saw the fault in our stars in a bookshelf and, being a nerd fighter, i felt I had to buy it.I had never read any book that wasn't imposed to me by my school, and this book reading thing was all new to me, but I decided to give your's a shot. I read the whole damn book in two days, and considering that my average reading speed is a page every two…

Why The Rich Pay Lower Taxes

In which Hank takes on some fascinatingly boring stuff about the U.S. tax code, what sorts of incomes there are, how tax brackets work, and why rich people pay a substantially lower tax rate than most people in America.

And then he makes some value judgements and expresses some opinions which are not necessarily the opinions of his brother, and are obviously the…

Book Review: The Forgotten Beasts of Eld, by Patricia A. McKillip

Brace yourself for another very short review, I'm sorry, but a) I have to leave for work in approximately 20 minutes and b) I didn't put and bookmarks in this book so I have nothing to quote and c) I don't need to freak out about anything.

As you know, I've read one of McKillip's books before, The Alphabet of Thorn.  Her books are beautifully written, very pretty language and with a narrative like a fairy tale.  This book was very dramatic, but not in a bad way, and I…

Neil Armstrong Kickstarter Tribute

There are several ‘space-themed’ campaigns in Kickstarter. To me, this signals that the human species (not just a single culture or nation) wants to go to space.  We want to explore and discover; and we want to build something great…

Neil Armstrong is a hero.

Neil died while our community was meeting at the International Space…

The inadequacy of empathy.

Greetings Nerdfighters!

I've recently been re-reading (for what could most possibly be the tenth time) the phenomena that is 'Paper Towns' and somehow my reading experience has intertwined with my current predicament and alas! Here we have a very long winded, morose, incoherent, rambling blog post!

So 'Paper Towns'- Of course, it is as thought provoking as ever but what's recently been playing on my mind is the quote so delicately put 'I must always ask the dying man where it…

I took a wrong turn.

I was watching youtuber, Ze Frank's latest video and it got me thinking. It got me thinking about his previous videos and what those videos and this video said. Through out his videos he talks about thinking, about finding ourselves and thinking about all the things the universe will hold for us if we just think.

I used to be the person who stayed on the computer for hours looking up poems and quotes from philosophers. I did this to learn about the universe and myself. Through…

Plane Ride and a Conversation with a House

My last post, almost two weeks ago now, was convoluted, and easily misunderstood.  When I posted it to Facebook, someone chose to take it personally.  Well, I can't help what slight someone sees in my personal pain and worry, but I can see where I've erred in my wording.  When I was discussing my travel documents, I suggested that I should be allowed to reap the benefits of being white, as though being white should grant me benefits.  Certainly, this is not the way I feel on the overall…

Encounters

I've been doing a lot of thinking today, which happens to be National Just Because Day. And I've come to realize how grateful I am for the people in my life. Each oneof them brings something special that I am ever so grateful for. And I don't think that I could ever thank them enough for that.

It's amazing how people come into our lives at the perfect moment. It's amazing how out of almost 7 billion (a more precise estimate: 6,973,738,432) other people on this planet, we manage to to…

Dear people of the Ning,

I am blogging this to tell you about the upcoming EXILIAN ATHENIAD of 2012. At last...

It is comforting to know that I am not alone in this universe! I am a nerd in so many ways - grammar, science, maths, music, sci-fi, literature, etc etc... - and it is good that there are so many like-minded individuals, joined together by the literary nerd-kings: the Green brothers!

I have spent a great deal of time correcting the grammar, punctuation and general idiocy of certain friends (which is to…

Welcome to Nerdfighteria

I have always been a nerd. Always. But, up until quite recently, I did not know that an entire nation of nerds existed in one place where I could come and meet them all read blog posts and stories and join groups and not be seen as weird for doing these things! You know how it feels to find a group like that? Well, of course you do, because, if you're reading this, you must also be a Nerdfighter. And that's awesome. Because we are awesome! Think about it. Nerdfighters have the funniest,…
