In “Brave New World”, Aldous Huxley has created a visual extrapolation of the failures of human beings he was witness to during his era. The book was written just before world war 2, during the golden age of advertising, only 4 years after women took equal voting rights in the UK and also an important time for labour reform in the civil rights movement. In other words, the period of this book is a focus point that has led to many of the social structures we see in our day. Although this…
When the Great War began, armies attempted to fight using tactics that had been in use for hundreds of years. What they discovered, however, was that traditional tactics no longer worked. New technologies had made old tactics obsolete.
For many years warfare had been primarily mobile. During a battle each army would be constantly moving. When two armies met the goal was to overpower or destroy the enemy force. This was usually accomplished one of two ways:An army would sent…
Giant squid of anger is coming to get you. Seriously, someone will die tonight.
"The bottom line is that he was attacked for a specific reason; for being trans. That qualifies what happened to him as a hate crime. This was a violent transphobic attack, and the guy who did this to this 19 year old transman, needs to be charged and convicted accordingly. It’s unfortunate that they won’t arrest Mark.. but I do hope that once this goes to court, he’s punished. He shouldn’t be able to just…
I get a whole blog, all to my very own self? How awesome! (I hereby vow, pursuant to the Nerdfighter Code Subsection B12, to fill this blog with rampant and unmitigated awesomeness.)
So I want to talk about something awesome that's happened to me this year, my senior year of college: I've stopped being afraid of my peers.
I wasn't ever really afraid of my peers, not in any way that would qualify as legitimate social anxiety or anything. I just tend to be sensitive to…
Okay. Today I got my paycheck so I went to Game Stop (in the mall, wow.) and bought Assassin's Creed!. I am so excited about this, you don't even know! I've been watching people play it online and I said to myseld that I couldn't live without it and today I fulfilled my life by buying it. I just bought the first one. The guy almost swindled me into reserving Arkham City...well, I looked at the picture and almost swindled myself into reserving it and then I saw Assassin's Creed in my hands…
In which John answers the YouTube survey of Alex Day, aka Nerimon. Watch his survey here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ogDHvxN08j4 He also discusses secret sister Maureen Johnson's amazing new book The Name of the Star, which came out yesterday. You can get it here:… Continue
Okay so this is a rant about Doctor Who. Not just Doctor Who in general but to be specific Doctor Who since Matt Smith came along and Steven Moffat replaced RTD in the spot of head writer. Now, Doctor Who, for me, is lacking a bit. The last episode 'Closing Time' was probably my favourite out of the whole season six. I think Doctor Who has lost it's fun a little, it's gotten so complicated that if you blink you miss something vital, while at the same time are attacked by weeping angels. I…

I stayed home again today. I am still really sick and it sucks, but that's cool. Happy Rosh Hashanah!
Today was a pretty good day. I watched Eight Crazy Nights, and then I had a My Little Pony marathon. I am kind of in love with that show. It is really smart. Even though it is a kid show I am not ashamed of my love for it.
I am going to have to go to school tomorrow. It's going to suck, but I will get over. I will just come home and take a "nap" for the rest of the day and…
Okay so I played for five minutes and I love it. I picked Mordecai the hunter as my character and of course I went back and renamed him Alex. But the problem is that I am a really bad shooter. I basically run up to people and start shooting which is unfortunate. I do like the melee feature though because I enjoy close combat...in which case I have picked the wrong character...but I hear you can change so when I figure that out I will resume my most stupendous commentary.

I wonder what will happen when there is a major shift between generations in the work place. You are already seeing it now, people texting instead of calling others but what will happen when the people (like me) who are used to just typing their conversations and using a computer on a daily basis. Wasn't there a big push in the early 2000's to have computers not be so prevalent in you people's lives? No...okay, I'm crazy. Anyway, I think it will be interesting to see working conditions and…
I’m entered into this video editing setup contest, if I win I get a free Canon t3i.I was in the lead for a while, but as I didn't really have the endurance to poke people consistently for the 14 days the contest lasted, I have slipped behind. HOWEVER, today is the last day and I want to pull ahead.

In which Hank discusses the international peculiarity of Cup Stacking, the undeniable skill of Steven Purugganan, the subjective value of most things and asks you to help him pick his new glasses.
Inspiration stems from strange areas. Todays inspiration comes from the videos on hankgames in which Hank plays Portal 2 with Charlie McDonnell. I loved the Portal co-op mode and I was really wanting to get into first person shooters. I tried playing BioShock 2 but it scared the buzeezus out of me. So, I did some research and decided to go with a game called Borderlands. Its the Game of the Year edition for Mac. Now I know that Mac has got some shady graphics problems sometimes but I am hoping… Continue

i recently started a bucket list although i dont really see the point now :/ it ended up a bit bigger than a list. there is a list of countries and under each country, a list of what i want to do in that country. then one of my friends decided to break my heart and tell me that i would never have the money to do everything on the list because to do everything on the list, i would not be able to have a job. the list would end up being a full time occupation. so i do what every normal person…
Flipping through the channels or reading the paper now of days it seems like there is nothing good to believe in. No hope for the future. With multiple deaths, murders, suicides, all over the world it surprises me that there are still some optimists that are keeping this chaotic world stable. It is incredible how in days when the whole world is yelling at you all it takes is a smile or a friend to make it better. Now I know most of you reading this are contemplating "oh god not another… Continue
