Apology
Hi! Remember me? I'm Senior Executive Ningmaster Tom. I'm supposed to be running this site. :D
In reality, I've been missing in action for a long time. I have hardly done anything ning-related in months, apart from occasionally banning a spammer, or responding to an e-mail. (And changing the banner. :þ)
But I should've been doing so. much. more. :|
(Including, but not limited to, essential tasks like…

Goat Mating Is Weird
In which John witnesses his parents' goats mating, including all of the weird foreplay that precedes goat sex, like the part where the male goat urinates on his own beard and then rubs it all over the female goat, and then the part where the goat humps in all the wrong places. A thoughts from places only with more goat intercourse than usual.
Our mom will be making…

The Nook: Reading and Having Books

Listen, Jena, I’ve really been enjoying the Nook I got for Christmas (thanks, Mam and Dad). Three dollars and five minutes got all Mark Twain’s books onto this little eReader. I love our apartment full of actual books, though, so I thought I should figure out whether or not eReaders are going to ruin books. Also I photographed my newly organized library. You married into this.

Maybe the internet crippled the music industry,…

Six Merry Facts about "A Christmas Carol"

Listen, Jena, I know I’ve gone on about Charles Dickens a bit this month, but it’s Christmas time, and no writer helps us define and celebrate the season like Dickens. So here are six interesting facts about his miniature masterpiece, A Christmas Carol.

We want you! ... to help make this site more awesome!
As many of you guys will know, Nerdfighteria will soon be moving from the Ning Network onto a private domain. This gives us greater freedom on what we can do with Nerdfighters. Owing to this, we are looking to appoint new users to the roles of Ningmasters, or Admins as they will be known on the new system. We are looking for enthusiastic individuals who love the site as much as we do, to join us in helping transfer over and improving the place we love. So if you have a…

Book Review: Secrets of the Dragon Sanctuary, by Brandon Mull (***SPOILER ALERT***)
Yes, I just read another J-Fic book. I've read the first three Fablehaven books and quite enjoyed them, so naturally...
What I love most about this series is the creativity. The writing is by no means brilliant, but every aspect of the story is incredibly imaginative. The characters are deep and likeable, the plot is detailed and captivating... some of the events that take place, particularly in the fourth book, make me think perhaps it should be moved to the YA…

Mrs. Charles Dickens vs. Me

Listen, Jena, if you get around to reading this entry, it won’t be because the title pulled you in. It’ll be because you love me, for some reason. This got me thinking about writing and mortality, and made me wonder; who’s better suited to enjoy Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol: his wife Catherine, or me?
Dickens dabbled in mesmerism. He was an actor, a philanthropist, a maker of amazing punch, and able to read his works aloud so effectively that women…

Book Review: Watch For Me By Moonlight, by Jacqueline Mitchard
To be honest, I found this book kind of... disappointing, boring, dull, annoying... I don't know. I read the first two Midnight Twins books in the spring, and I know that they weren't fantastic, but I don't remember being annoyed by them.
There are two reasons mainly that I disliked this book, and they are the same two reasons that I usually have for disliking a book: a) the writing style, and b) the romance.
a) Sometimes I don't like a narrative style…
