Optimism is Not Insane
In which Hank talks about our cognitive bias toward bad news, how that affects us, and why there are, in fact, lots of reasons to be optimistic about the future of humanity on the Earth. Information is the Currency of Nerdfighteria
The Nerdfighters site recently reached the 90,000 milestone for registered accounts which is huge. Oddly the most recent 10,000 accounts were created within a year compared to the previous ten. I am pretty stoked that the site is getting bigger all the time, as the Green Bros’ following is getting bigger all the time. But then I got to thinking (which is rarely good news for anyone else I work with on the site :D ) there will likely be many people who are unsure about elements of our…

What's Up with Start Ups
I'm just getting a little sick of the system that values aggregators of content more than creators of content, and presumes some kind of magical future where owning users free time results in lots of money.
Also, if you are an excellent, detail-oriented, graphic designer who wants to work with a company that does cool things quickly…

The position of Fem-nerd, or Femineity in nerd culture
Since i was a little girl i have watched and grown up with star trek, my little brother and i learnt all the words to the beginning sequence, my best friend was even named after one of the characters, in other words i was a massive nerd. In my high school years I was defiantly an outcast, but at the age of 14 i discovered Harajuku fashion and anime, these were my new loves, i spent hours looking at fashion shows and reading blogs about Harajuku. My Friends were not as enthusiastic about…

Some Mind-Bending Earth GIFs
http://earthengine.google.org/#timela...
Google's new Earth Engine, powered by NASA's landsat satellites, gives a time lapse view of (pretty much) every land surface on earth over the last 25 years. The view is amazing, and inspiring, and at times terrifying.
It can be hard to understand the scale here, but…
