What Do Book Clubs Do for You?

Today, a three year old high school philosophy club and several years old book club that I ran last year as a senior, with a couple dozen members total, has lost administration support for content and a faculty sponsor.

Really? Does education really have to go that far? I understand if the teacher sponsor is busy and needs to step out because of a more important reason, but administration not looking for another faculty sponsor and disappointing a diversity of STUDENTS that all love…

Canyon Ridge High School Students Protest The Luna Plan!

Today was amazing! At 8:50am Me and a bunch of my fellow students rallied together in order to protest against the Luna Plan. Tom Luna is the Idaho Superintendent of Public Instruction and any people all across Idaho are upset about his education reform plan. He wants to replace teachers with computers, fire all the old teachers and replace them, and increase our class sizes to 40-50 students in a class. Many of us students love our teachers and without them alot of us wouldn't be able…

Book Review #5: Troy High

Homer’s Iliad, the classic tale of love and revenge, is shrewdly retold for teens in Troy High.

Narrated by Cassie, a shy outsider who fears that an epic high school rivalry is about to go up in flames, the story follows the Trojans and Spartans as they declare war on the football field. After the beautiful Elena—who used to be…

Nerdfighters in Bangladesh - Project for Awesome

Sorry for the late upload. This is the story of the Dharmarajika Monastery in Dhaka, Bangladesh. It was formed in the 1960s by a respected Buddhist Venerable. During the Bangladesh War of Liberation which killed over 3 million people, the Buddhist Venerable setup an orphanage for children who lost parents during the war.

Since then, the orphanage has turned into a hostel for both children without parents and those from poor families. No children…

.:My French Shananigans:.

At school, I sit in my seat and think about what I want to do when I get home.

In French class, I think about what I want to do in French.

When I walk outside to my next class, I think about just making a right instead of a left and head home.

As my last class comes around, I get anxious and wish I were home.…

Complaints of a Freshman.

Yep! Yesterday I began my first day of High School. It was hard.

First: I got lost. A lot.

The school is so spread out. My homeroom is on one side of the school and my first period class is on the other. Then my second period class is right by my homeroom. It would have been easier with a map of the school. That's what my friends said. The guidance consular? Do NOT use your map. You will look like a freshman and will be teased. So…

Harry Potter: Not Just a Book

I have been so busy with school that I haven't been in check with Nerdfighteria and when I really needed to vent, I remembered I had a blog among Nerdfighters.

Being a Harry Potter fan, I receive a lot of comments about how "stupid and childish" it is and when I attempt to defend it, I just get a lot of thick-headed responses. The way people perceive my obsession with Harry Potter is, well, like an obsession, but that's really not what it is. People don't understand that Harry Potter,…

2010 and beyond

Blogging has never been my strong point. I'm hoping to do it more now that my new website is being finish (thanks Jen). I normally don't know what to talk about unless I've been impassioned to rant about a philosophical cinematic dilemma. So this is something very new to me. I'm sure the early entries will appear rather stiff like the top button of a collared shirt that is two sizes too small. Perhaps it'll come naturally after the first few attempts. Writing is like exercising your brain. At… Continue

High School: A Love-Hate Relationship

I know that teenagers have only two feelings when it comes to High School: you love it or you hate it. For me,it is different because my relationship with my high school is a Joan Crawford-Bette Davis relationship.I go to Fairhaven High School,a half old and half new high school, but I hate the new building because it is disgusting,I love the old building though,it reminds me of a palace, where I thought I was a queen, walking through my palace to watch my beloved people hustle and bustle around… Continue

What's Wrong with Disney

As you can probably guess, I usually a huge fan of Disney. But, currently there are numerous problems with them.

The Princess and the Frog, John Lasseter, and the Music Problem

Please note: I do respect John Lasseter, I just question some of his ideas.

Concept Art of Tiana. (c)Walt Disney Company

As some of you know, "The Princess and the Frog" is probably going to the last Disney 2-D movie and there has… Continue

OMC, a Blog!!

Wow, I epically fail. For a reason I am unaware of , I didn't know this was here! I LOVE BLOGS!!! ={D <-- That guy totally has a mustache!!! Um... BOOKS!! I totally went to an anime club meeting thing in my area the other day with one of my friends, and it was good. Paying It Forward

Paying It Forward

"This maybe the day that I finally pay it forward" I said to a group of students just minutes ago. I'm writing this at a desk inside the American International School in Dhaka. I was invited to talk to the students here and, after a very long day, I just finished talking to over 200 students in both… Continue
