Book Review: The God of Small Things, by Arundhati Roy

This is going to be a very different review. For a very different book. I read "The God of Small Things" because my dad wanted me to read it. I think he said I should read it because of my own interest in writing, because I am always inspired by the brilliance of authors. It took me quite a long time to read this book; two full weeks I think, which is kind of ridiculous. It wasn't that it was a difficult read (I've read more difficult books faster than that) or that it was boring (it…

Prayer, oh Prayer! What have thou become!

As the title of the Blog suggests, this is in fact, about  prayer! It's been on my mind for a fair wee bit and I'd figure one way to get it outt'a me system would be to write  typed it all out. Heck, what could go wrong? ~People could think that you don't respect one of their most priced beliefs~ Quiet contradicting voice within my head! ~ You know I'm right ~.  God damn it..

Anywho! Moving on to the subject…

Animal Mating and Librarian Talking

You can play lots of Truth or Fails here:

In which John goes to a meeting of Medical Librarians and then shares with you a truth or fail on the subject of animal mating. Okay, I have to get back to looking for TFiOS errors now.

do higher powers exist?

people dont believe in religion due to the lack or a physical god but what i dont understand is if religion is a spiritual thing then why cant a god be spiritual instead of physical?

personally, i am not religious although i come from a long line of christian/catholic people (my mind is more science based). i respect religion and what it offers humanity however i do not buy creationalism.

people do not buy the 'stories' of the bible (or equivilent) however who said the…

Do You Believe in God?

In which Hank discusses that all too common question and why he doesn't like it and so rarely answers it.

What does the answer tell you? Really? Is it like a blind man asking my skin color? Is it someone trying to legitimize their own beliefs? Is it built into our genes?

Don't get me wrong, we're built to categorize. Being truly exceptional pattern recognizers is one of the reasons why we are the dominant species on the planet. We seek patterns my… Continue

Spencer's Philosophy Question

The other day Spencer (my brother) asked me, "How can God be good if he causes he so much pain?". He's in a philosophy class so he's been spouting stuff like this off lately.

The first thing that I said was that God is neither good nor bad and it all depends on your perception. It was honestly just the first thing that I thought of.

Then I thought about it a bit more and my next answer actually answered the question. God causes pain because pain makes you grow. When I say…

Serenity, Courage, and Grace- P4A-inspired

I haven't blogged in forever, but I thought I'd post something now.

Lord, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.

This is my favorite prayer, and I have been saying it a lot lately.

We all need more…

Religion Vs Atheism

Recently I’ve been condemned for having faith in God, and so i decided to come to tumblr and write a bit of an article on it. Basically, people seem to think that believing in a god means I…

Clash of the titans..... ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh

So i watched clash of the titans and i must say it was fairly decent. I liked it i thought Perseus was played pretty good. I have never read the book and i do not know for sure if this a remake of the remake or a remake of the remake that's based on a book or it just based on the book. I did some research today because it got me thinking and interested in Greek Mythology. I found out that Perseus according to some website is like the great grandfather of Hercules which is also his… Continue

The Most Awesome Day. [inrecentmemory]

Okay, so I'm a poor kid. I'm not going to explain too much more, just think of the poorest friend you have; that's me. Yeah.

And today, my mother got paid! So, obviously, we went out to go get things and have fun (for once). Oh yes, we're not terribly responsible, but where's the fun in that? (We did get plenty of necessities, I promise!)

First, we…

Nerdfighters Hand Thingy

So, I really think I should be considered a nerdfighter. I read Harry Potter and sing with the cast of Glee. I'm in drama and my favorite movies are 7 Brides for 7 Brothers and Yours, Mine, and Ours (with Lucille Ball and Henry Fonda). I have celebrity crushes on the young Dick Van Dyke and Howard Keel and the people I aspire to be like most are God, Lucille Ball, and Angela Martin. I get high on my chemistry green problems and love getting math homework. I MUST be a nerd.

The only… Continue

Suzerain / Vassal Covenants - A Biblical Perspective on Government

I was arguing on the nerdfighter government forums that before we start seriously writing a Nerdfighterian Government constitution, we need to research the great historical works of philosophy and discussion of government. I wanted to blog our findings so other nerdfighters could observe and help build a Nerdfighter consensus on the responsibilities. Since I am interested in the Bible's perspective on these issues and am already familiar with it, I am going to start with some of… Continue

Profile Pictures - A Poem by Bryant

That evening you were wearing your best smile

the one that makes you look fake.

We danced without music with the generator running

because the power was out

and you were cold.

My chest of books divide amongst my friends

said the poet as he lay dying

and so we did divide his books

you took the Bible

I took something useful.

Appraise the antiques and appeal the case.

As the judges gavel gave you your sentence

to be placed… Continue

The World is Full of Homophobes and Christians...

Alright, so maybe not the whole world. But it appears to be a lot of it. I turn the corner, BAM! "I love Jesus." I turn the next corner, BAM! "I hate fags." Sometimes you can go about your life doing what you do, being around others who do what they do without noticing a hideous thought. But eventually that thought becomes loud and clear and a ripple effect occurs and sooner or later you know quite a few people's thoughts and you realize they are all the same hideous thoughts.

But a… Continue
