As of two days ago, my house got Internet. For the first time since September 2012.
You got it, nerdy folk. I went through practically my entire junior year of high school in a public education system that assumes all students have Internet and assigns tasks as such.
I deserve a medal. A big one.
I had just gotten used to roughin' it at home, in the middle of no where, then BAM, we're back online, and all I wanna do is surf until I get keyboard calluses on my fingers…Continue

Its late at night; I got my coffee in one hand, and a mouse in the other. I think we've all been there. So in leu of a better topic here is some lessons I've leaned about the internet over the years.
1) Never, EVER, click a link you don't understand.
2) Internet Explorer is a browser for downloading other browsers.
3) If you're on a school computer, never misspell "candystand" as a porn site may pop up.
4) If you fail #3, do not contact the teacher. Just…Continue
I currently find myself an university junior forced to return to my parents home in the arena of my former communities. My high school is only a 30 minute walk from my home, or a 10 minute drive taking stop lights into consideration if I had a car and could legally do so. But, there are none of my high school friends to be found. Most of them are away at their own colleges, working full time or already…Continue

In which Hank does not show you lots of clips from VidCon because that would just be mean...also because there's no way he'd have enough time to edit a vlog like that in time to put it online.
Good lord I am tired, but VidCon is awesome, I wish you were all here.

In which Hank breaks up with Subway in favor of Jimmy John's (through a parody song) and then talks about advertising for a while. Because advertising is very interesting and a little bit disturbing.
Also, thanks to Phil for shouting us out. Welcome to the DeFranco nation.
Thanks the Michael Aranda for shooting and editing the music video:…Continue

In which Hank screams his way around the Anaheim Convention Center and then, eventually, all the way home.
So...lots of things in this video:

Inspired by CGP Grey's Misconception Debunking: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SCzXZfNIu3A
In which John debunks various misconceptions involving martyrdom, presidents, near-presidents, keeping track of your age, flightless birds, math, physicists, and the universe.

In which Hank walks around the French Quarter and discusses the freaking sweet internet blackout that resulted in a great number of congresspeople dropping their support for SOPA and PIPA. The internet is coming into it's own as a powerful political force, and just in time to face serious threats.
Note: All buskers in this video received at least a $5 tip. Posting a…Continue

So I am reading this article ("The Concept of Cultural Translation" by Talal Asad in Writing Culture edited by James Clifford and George E. Marcus) and I wish I could recommend it. I mean, it's of a great deal of use to me, an aspiring ethnographer interested in the idea of a culture as text and what that means in terms of relativism and representing the coherence of ideas that might seem absurd, but I know that isn't everybody.

John Lennon's 'Imagine' is a well loved song. Which is strange when you really think about it. In this song, Lennon paints a very clear picture of a communist world. 'Imagine there's no heaven... Imagine there's no countries... And no religion too...Imagine no possessions...Imagine all the people/ Sharing all the world' (1)
It's a wonder that this song is so well loved, as it was released right in the midst of the Cold War(2). Perhaps it's…Continue

In case you didn't already know, I am a bit of a nerd. I am also an incredibly lazy person who in spite of living in one of the busiest and most crowded cities in the world, doesn't have any friends that live anywhere near a place that would be easy to get to. There are a grand total of 2 people my age in my neighborhood, one of which is me and the other one is my best friend who lives a mile and a half away from me up a hill when she's not away at school. There are no buses that go within…Continue

As you can probably tell by the bigger writing, I am not on my computer. The internet on my computer has chosen today to be stupid. It really likes doing that.
Because of the stupidity of the internet on my computer, I will not be doing Review Wednesday today. Instead, I will do one tomorrow (and hopefully I'll remember this time).
In case you're wondering, the main reason why I don't like writing Review Wednesdays when I'm not on my computer is that the…Continue

So, today the internet one my computer decided to be stupid. Because of this, I have to write this blog on a different computer, hence the bigger writing. Also because of this I'm not doing Song Tuesday today, though that's because I don't have my iTunes with me currently. I'm also not going to do a Review Wednesday. I'm hoping this will all work itself out by tomorrow. If it does, I'll do Song Tuesday tomorrow and Review Wednesday on Saturday. We'll see.
The week's almost…Continue
