Elizabeth Hey "And in life, you do have to choose between your friend and the boy you like."

The whole college application thing was really, really getting to me. Mostly just the essays, but the Common App website was kind of frustrating, and that didn't help anything. I had to stop thinking about it for a little while. So I read The Boy Book and The Treasure Map of Boys by E. Lockhart. (Both very good, but read the first book, The Boyfriend List first!) E. Lockhart's blog is part of the reason I'm on this site at all--I had friends who recommended it, but I… Continue

Ningmaster Tom Pictures!

So I didn't get round to blogging last week. It was late (GMT+2) and I was going to blog. But then news surfaced that Michael Jackson has suffered a cardiac arrest, followed some time later by the news that he had passed away. The internet came to a halt, sites crashing because of the traffic. It was a weird evening, to say the least. And blogging about pictures just didn't come to mind anymore.
How will the world manage without Michael Jackson? I do

Super Dave Book Review: "The Last Olympian", by Rick Riordan (2009)

[Wow, it has been a long time since I posted anything.] My girlfriend once told me that I'm the only college student she ever knew who gets tired by midnight. Depending on when I woke up and how stressful/boring my day has been, I can fall asleep as early as 10pm, and unless I'm hanging out with friends, it's a rare night that I'm not in bed by midnight. Even when I'm reading for pleasure, and the book is really exciting and engaging, it's nigh-impossible for me to keep my eyes open past… Continue

Tashi Freeman Sometimes things don't turn out right - sometimes things turn out too right

I'm a Canadian, living in Canada, and am happy about it. I enjoy the availability of services, diversity of cultural groups, and the big tree in my front garden. However, when I see American news I get the depressing sense of relativism. Recently the United States, Canada's friendly yet frightening neighbor, has been going through some troubles. One of the United States' biggest anxieties right now is whether or not its healthcare will be reformed - or even reconstructed - into a more "sociali… Continue

Gabrielle What *I* first thought of when I found out Michael Jackson died

I first started working in a special education classroom during my freshman year of college, there was a pair of little guys, kindergarten-aged at the time, E__ and M__, both with Down Syndrome, drug exposure, and from Spanish-speaking households (so the hurdles they’re up against are monumental), and the two of them have been dubbed various names such as The Dream Team and Tweedles as terms of endearment for the shenanigans they pull when together- on my second day, for example, E__ started flu… Continue

Elizabeth Alright, ENOUGH ALREADY

Kay, I love MJ and all, but I don't have to hear about him 24/7. I'll start to miss him and hate him less once the news stop milking the crap out of this story. I keep seeing the same clips and hearing the same things and it starts to get old after a while. He was a great man, but not great enough to be on T.V. all the time. I want to watch some good T.V. but all I see is MJ. So just leave it and tell me when something happens, Azasaur Continue

Matt It Don't Matter if You're Black or White, We'll All Miss Michael Jackson

Michael Jackson is an interesting subject of study. He was beaten by his father, along with all of his other siblings, and emotionally scarred by other things his father did (like climbing through their window late one night, wearing a scary mask and yelling at them when they were all asleep. He apparently had many many nightmares about being kidnapped from his bedroom). When he first opened up about his childhood abuse, when he was a grown man, he covered his face and cried, so obviously it was… Continue

Elizabeth Yet another rant, and this time it has death in it (explicit language)

Dear Perez Hilton, You are a mother fucking douchebag. You do not talk crap about a man who is dying. Even if you think its fake, you still don't do it. It's just not right. If you try to deny that you posted things about him, you can't. Phillip DeFranco has a screenshot of that page. Now that he's dead, I bet you feel like crap for posting that, don't you? Well, you should. Because maybe he died because you talked too much shit about him. His heart exploded from all of the negative energy radia… Continue

Super Dave Review: "The Titan's Curse," by Rick Riordan

I finished Book 3 in the Percy Jackson quintology just a few days ago, but haven't really had a chance to write about it until now. I've got to say I'm thoroughly enjoying these books. I can actually feel them getting better with each passing volume, as Mr. Riordan refines and polishes his technique. The first books were good, don't get me wrong, but I felt that they weren't quite on the same level as, say, Harry Potter or His Dark Materials. But this book has made me recon… Continue

Megan Lucinda 50 Books in 2009!

I did this challenge last year, but didn't officially start until April. And even then I managed well over 50! :D I'm hoping this year will be even better and I'm going to use this blog to keep track of what I've read and what I'm currently reading. (: [01] Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows by Joanne Rowling (Re-read) [02] Harry, A History by Melissa Anelli [03] The Other Boleyn Girl by Philippa Gregory [04] Runemarks by Joanne Harris [05] Generation Dead by Daniel Waters [06] The Carbon Di… Continue

Maccadole Belated Valentine's Blog

Hullo, Nerdfighters! I slept all day today. That was sad, but nice. I'm going to watch Willow later. People have been bugging me about it. Anyway. :D My Valentine's day was indeed made of awesome. I spent it with my fictional boyfriend Daniel Jackson. Yep. I'm that much of a nerd. He bought me cake. Cake is tasty. There needs to be more cake in the world. I personally think that cake helps to decrease worldsuck. Don't you agree? I've also recently discovered that I love the Ning. I can't live… Continue
