Physics and more physics. and then some...

So, I was in a physics lecture a few days ago, and we were being told about special relativity and how it works and stuff. The lecturer went onto the topic of how mass changes with speed when he was asked what would happen to an objects mass when it got to the speed of light. He told the class that if you had a speed of C, your mass would be infinite. He was also wrong.

As you get closer and closer to C, your speed gets closer and closer to infinity, so isn't it logical to assume that…

Positively Physics

Everyone wake up to a new dawn

Take advantage of the newly rising photon

Watch the night go away like a positron

As it collides with an effervescing electron

And remember that even a proton

May have two ups but of a down it has one

Because everything in life can't go on

A neverending positive, always won.

But also remember that a…

Top 5 Kick-Ass Things About the Webb Telescope

The James Webb Space Telescope is the successor to the Hubble's throne. In order to pick up extremely faint infra-red signals from extremely distant stars and galaxies, the JWST has to be extremely cold. Any noise from the IR radiation of the Sun or Earth would make it impossible to see as far into the past as scientists want to.

Thus, the JWST has to be a million miles from the earth, protected by a six-layer heat shield as big as a tennis court. This will… Continue

What I Believe

I just felt like this needed to be put out there. Maybe no one will care, but maybe someone will.

I'm here to talk about religion. I'm a Christian - I believe in God and that Jesus is the son of God, etc. My church is the Remnant Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (we're not Mormons - we're Restorationists). I haven't had a lot of formal religious education (much to my mother's chagrin), so I'm not really sure about the nitty-gritties of what my church believes. But…

stephen hawking

I went to a lecture by Stephen Hawking last night. Rather than having a pre-made presentation start to finish, he was actively choosing what he wanted to say and present. It made for some long pauses in his talk, but this method worked to keep him involved. He's rather witty, and the lecture (entitled "Out of a Black Hole") was clear and informative. I recommend looking up the "information paradox", of which I had been vaguely aware. Again, he made it very clear.

A professor for whom… Continue

Greetings and Many Happy Readings - http://spottedlabcoat.blogspot.com/

Science is one of those entities which is all around us, this computer I am typing on, the pen you used to write down a message with, the tap you just turned on to wash your hands – these are all examples of what science has been able to give us. However, despite the degree to which the products of science are integrated into our lives, in general, scientists themselves are not very good at communicating with the wider community.

It is this travesty, which I am aiming to try and… Continue
