Why BAD trailers can RUIN films

Trailers. Trailers can be exiting, I find they are part of the whole cinema experience and I often look forward to the trailers more than the film itself. However... they can also utterly and entirely ruin an otherwise good film.

This can happen in FOUR ways. The first tends only to happen with franchises or big star movies. A prime example of this for me would be The Half Blood Prince. If you have too many trailers, and release too much information/images/general information about… Continue

Supernatural!

As a humungous fan of supernatural, I was a little disappointed when I watched the premiere of season six. However, now that the season is warming up I'm so excited. After watching the third epi today (The Third Man) I must say I'm really happy about the direction they're taking plot now. I was a little confused when theu dropped the whole Samuel story, but I'm sure it will pick up again soon. The third episode was good in quite a few ways, and contained something that we only started seeing…

Can't Sleep

My God!

Has it really been that long since my last blog?

I can't believe I let things go this long.

Well, the drought is officially over, I'm back. Right now, I'm just looking for something to keep my mind occupied because I can't sleep. The problem is, I don't know why.

There are some things going on that are causing me some concern, but nothing that I would think would keep me up at night. At least, I didn't think so.

Yet, here I am,… Continue

Got Plot!

I'm very happy that I finally have a plot with a strong beginning and middle. I'm not sure how it will end but I'm working on it. My critic is working me over in a huge way. He looks like a little tough mafia guy from the 30's and he's wearing a well tailored double breasted suit. YES, he has a gun. I'm not worried because I have a strong feeling that it's not loaded, but he's quite intimidating and I don't want to test my strong feeling, if you know what I mean. I wish he'd shut up, but he… Continue

Rollercoaster Plot Desperation

I'm falling asleep at my keyboard because I refuse to leave it without coming up with a plot to write this weekend. The sandman is winning the battle here. I'm great at journaling, but fiction is a whole different animal for me. I want to write something with the feel of a rollercoaster.

I realize that it's insane for me to believe that I'm going to write a great novel in three days when I'm not a big fiction writer. I think I need to let myself off the hook and at least go to bed.… Continue

I Love Getting Ideas From Something Minor

It seems like so many of my character and plot ideas build from something minor said either in real life, or in a line of dialogue from a movie or television.

Tonight, for example, on CSI there was a statement made that started giving me ideas about a character. Nothing major, just a little quirk to give a character that little something extra. This particular idea might work for a series I've been putting together for a while.

Some time this month, I might decide to post… Continue

Moral confusion at my first viewing of _Watchmen_

I have two other posts on hold because of this one, so I hope this does a decent job of expressing how I feel without spoiling too much of the novel or film.

As the semi-crowd (I saw it on opening day in the afternoon, and in a little nothing town in Washington, so the theater was about 1/2 full- a lot for this town, by the way) started to settle, two things happened almost simultaneously to gain my attention and concern. I was sitting with a man in the seat directly on my… Continue
