Thoughts from Places: Ottoneum (Naturkundemuseum) Kassel

Ein Video für die deutschen Nerdfighter. Ich besuche das Ottoneum in Kassel und ... denke darüber nach. Es ist ein Anfang, aber ich denke nach und nach wird das alles besser.

I'm in the Central Time Zone!

Coming to you live from Chicago, Illinois! The Windy City! The Central Time Zone!

We’ve been staying at the home of relatives for a while. The house is very nice and big, to say the least, with quite a lot of bedrooms. And rooms in general. Not to mention their Internet is fairly better than what I used to have back in San Diego. (Just as a side note, on that Internet I had back in San Diego, it wasn’t bad per se, and in the last five years it’s been…

To Be Anything At All: Thoughts from Places, Chicago and LeakyCon 2012

In which John discusses the surprises and pleasures of being anything at all while attending the Harry Potter conference LeakyCon and walking around downtown Chicago. Also, I read from some humiliating high school fiction.

Vlog one - Thoughts on vlogging and my first attempt

A fellow nerdfighter convinced me to started to up a vlog.

In which I try to tell you a little about who I am and what I do, and succeed at neither. The next one will have a real subject though, I promise!

The main reason I'm starting this up is to improve my public speaking really, or maybe just my speaking in general. When I'm watching accomplished youtubers I can't help but notice how engaging…

Chris Colfer, John Green, Mob Wives, and Jeffrey Eugenides: Thoughts from Places Book Expo

A Thoughts from Places video in which John Green attends Book Expo America in New York City, also known as BEA, where he thinks about celebrity and secular worship after meeting the super-cool Chris Colfer from Glee, as well as some of his favorite writers, including Darin Strauss and Jeffrey Eugenides. thoughts n°1

I am not an american and really have no particular intrest in the sport (appart from it's system of distributing funds equally amongst teams to promote fairness, unusually socialist for the US), but I recently came to thinking that american football could be improved upon immeasurably by adding two players on each team whose job it would be to use the blue and orange portal guns, so the ground would be portal-able and each player would have a portal-able area on his chest and back.

This…

The coming of summer

My first reaction to today when I woke up was: "OH MY GOD WHY AM I SOAKING WET?" my second reaction was "WHY THE F IS IT SO HOT HERE?" So needless to say, summer is making its approach known through a combination of heat and excessive humidity. I found myself singing with relative frequency Hanks song It's Too Hot throughout the day. Soon I will not even be able to sleep in my room and will have the utmost pleasure of sleeping in the living room on the incredibly uncomfortable not to mention…

Defining Stupid

You can see my other posts at 80dc.blogspot.com

I’m bored, and blogging. This cannot be a good combination.
It’s been awhile since I’ve blogged, or written anything in a really long time. To be honest, post-portfolio writing is just not fun. I hit writing overload after I finished both of my portfolios and now I’m going to have to force myself to write anything. I worked out a way to start writing more fiction, thanks to the wonderful …

Hm. I'll give this a shot, I s'pose.

I've kind of always wanted to try blogging. It always seemed like an interesting way to get view points across. Besides, blogging could be a way of making sure I check my Nerdfighters account on a regular basis, although not much happens on it anyway, but that's probably due to the fact that I don't check it very often...hm.

Anyway, blogging. What am I supposed to write about? I'm pretty sure none of my friends from school or anything are on here, and if they are, they don't know that…

Lack of Creativity Leads Me to Make This Completely Unrelated Post Title

I guess the post title could be "Honesty" since that title was unnervingly honest ("Honesty? What is this 'honesty' you speak of?" quote the raven of American society...or most society, really).

Original ideas for the title include "YOLO" and "You Only Live Once?"

But before you scramble in the other direction, hear me out. I am typing what I'd like to call an enjoyable (if not completely time-wasting) blog.

If you haven't heard of the acronym YOLO, it stands for "You…

Keep Your Fingers Crossed

Today I was sitting at my grandmother's house in the living room alone, as I often find myself when everyone else is off and busy being without me (I'm a nerd with peculiar dreams, what can I say?).

This time around however, instead of writing, reading, talking to myself, pretending to be Hamlet, etc., I decided to watch television.

Now, television and I have a weird relationship (as in I usually watch TV shows on the internet, so the actual TV doesn't like me…

The Fault in Our Stars

There are very few moments that create the feeling of that proverbial shift in life. Once in a while if we pay attention, we may notice something that inspires us. This inspiration is the driving force that we define as growth.

I have just finished The Fault in Our Stars, and I am left speechless. This beautiful and tragic story has the unique capability of also creating a sense of duty. I do not feel that I will now go and change the world—or even myself—but I do have a…

Illusions

Sometimes when you hold someone in you mind you only see them the way you want to. That picture of them might change after awhile but you will always have that initial idea in you head. You will always think of them in that way. So when you hear that this person you have in your mind has made a mistake you think it is shocking and untrue. Even though it might be the closest thing to the truth. In a way this person you have saved in your mind is like a facebook picture if you think about…

P4A 2011 Thoughts

So this year was my first Project For Awesome, and I thought I'd say a few things about it.

Overall, I definitely wasn't disappointed. For the first 20 or so videos, I was taking my time and absorbing them which was pretty nice. However, at some point I went to the official P4A website, and realized just how many videos had been uploaded already (I had just been going off of the related videos on the side). So then I started feeling more rushed, and by the time I was in the…
