In which John counts down his top five favorite zombie apocalypses of all time, from video game zombies to novelistic zombies to vampire zombies to movie zombies to...well, you get the picture. I also talk a bit about the broader eschatological urges of humans.
Sorry I'm uploading late. I'm in Grand Haven, Michigan recording an audio version of The Fault in Our Stars. More…

So I read the first third or so of this chapter to my laptop camera from the backseat of a Greyhound bus, which attracted a lot of attention and caused some nausea, so the rest of it was read in the comfort of my home bedroom. To put it bluntly, it was boring. Basically what happened was Bella had a nightmare about being old, wakes up to see that it's her 18th birthday and she's all mad because Edward's body is only 17. I guess she feels like a cougar and doesn't like it even though…
Mary,
meanwhile, had things on her mind other than the somewhat surprising
return of her brother. She headed off to her favourite treetop, climbing
the tree with lightning speed and sitting there, watching the sun begin
to rise over the forest. She furrowed her brow in worry, wondering
about the gangs. There had always been threats to the forest, but Mary
had always been able to fend them off. This... this was different. The
gangs had started arriving a month… Continue
Mary was shaken from her reminiscing by a poke. She looked up, coming back to the present. "Oh sorry, I was.." "Miles away, yes, I could see that," Dan replied, a smile playing at his lips. "You were thinking about the day I was first turned, weren't you?" Mary nodded, then looked up at dan, puzzled. "How could you tell?" she asked, slightly confused. "It shows in your eyes. You get that fearful look in them that I remember from that day." "Well, you did come back to check up on me once in…
She was running, as fast as her feet could carry her. She could hear them gaining on her and she tried to push herself even faster, drawing on the power within her, but her feet wouldn't keep up and she…
Okay so these books are different than the normal vampire books that I recommend. These have a more adult rating and you can most definitely tell that they are written by a man. These books are nonstop action, violence, & sex. They are actually quite fun to read and feature Eric - a vampire who seems regular but is actually extremely powerful (even more than he knows) and his sarcastic, fight first question later ways make it endearing. He owns a strip club and the girls who work there, he… Continue

First, movies, since there's really only one I want to discuss:
I saw Julie & Julia with my mom today. Yes, I'm 23 and still see movies with my mom. It's a side-effect of living at home while I'm back in the States for the summer. Anyway, I really enjoyed it, both for the cooking aspect (it spoke to the aspiring culinary goddess in me) but also for the way that they wove together the two story lines. Also, Meryl Streep as Julia Child = WIN! So hilarious, it was hard not to… Continue

I'm am hugely obsessed with Twilight, and have recently showed my father and my next door neighbor, Tracy, the film. Tracy's son likes the film too, but he tried to stop her from watching it. (HA HA your attempt has FAILED!!!)
Anyway, We've all had a crazy plan to cut my hair like Alice from it and dye it a darker shade of brown. Then, when there is a thunderstorm next, which will be soon, we will play a little game of baseball on the top of a hill which has trees around it, making it the… Continue

I read all four books in the Twilight series (and that addition Meyer posted online from Edward's perspective, Midnight Sun). I started reading them because I knew they were everywhere. There were a number of memes going around (like the "Team Edward" stuff), and I wanted to be in on the joke. Plus, I realized that it was a "hot topic" of debate, suffused with all sorts of passionate arguments on both sides of the spectrum: loving it to death or wishing it had never been born. And… Continue
The seat was simple and gorgeous, nothing grandiose or ridiculous, just charming in it‘s simple beauty. I believe this was possibly the most amazing experience I’d ever had at this point in my life (ah, the days of easy satisfaction). The bench, itself (upon which I found myself sitting before I had known I’d even taken a step toward it), was merely a small and very well-upholstered love seat. The upholstery was white satin with a silver lace design, similar to the one on my dress, embroidered… Continue

Kristina (Monday from Fiveawesomegirls) is reading (or attempting to, at least) 50 books in the year of 2008. I've decided to do the same. I am VERY far behind, but I'm a slow reader. Anyway, here I am going to post the books I've read so far and place an asterix * (did I spell that right?) next to the one's I enjoyed, and two by my favorites.
EDIT: I give up on the 50 books. I'm going to see how many I do read this year, and maybe I'll shoot for 50 in 2009.
