Book Review: Wicked, by Gregory Maguire (probably spoilers but I don't know if it counts since everyone knows how it ends anyway?)

"Why ever would a girl be interested in evil?" -- Wicked, pg. 80

Whew.  Okay, I have to think this through a bit.  There are so many things to be said about this book, and there's no way I'll remember everything I want to say.  Also, be forewarned: I have 20 bookmarks.  That means this review will include at least 20 quotes--in other words, it will be very lengthy indeed.

I started reading Wicked once before, when I was…

NEW NINGMASTERS NEEDED!

It's that time of year again...

Well, that time that reoccurs every once in a while, not at all regularly, but usually at least once a year.

Anyway,  it's been —once again— way too long since we've had a change of staff, and we're about to change that.

It'll be like previous times; you write an application, we will pick candidates that seem like good candidates to us.

You'll then be offered a position for a number of months, at which point we'll probably…

Singers and why I want to kill them sometimes

People that can sing piss me off.

And it’s not just because I am so insanely jealous of them, because it’s not just that, but also because half of them waste it. I love musical theatre so effing much, and I love to act so much. I love the thrill

after you’ve performed on stage and the audience’s faces when they’re captured

by your story, and I love the applause and the compliments and the fact…

Day 135: Song Tuesday #5

Today's Song Tuesday comes to you from Wicked.

WIZARD (sung):
I never asked for this or planned it in advance.
I was merely blown here by the winds of chance.
I never saw myself as a Solomon or Socrates.
I knew who I was. One of your dime a dozen mediocrities.
Then, suddenly, I'm here respected, worshiped even.
Just because the folks in Oz needed someone to believe in.
Does it surprise you got…

Day 113: Things That Amuse Me #4

First of all, I haven't found my phone yet. My mom has suspended the number for now (at least until I find it) and the place where Masque was held has been called, so I'm hoping for something soon. And I'm going to clean my room sometime this week (though, I somehow don't think I threw my phone on the ground. . . I think I would remember doing that. Not necessarily, though). Anyway, if we don't happen to find it before the week is over, I'll more than likely be getting a new one over the… Continue

Day 93: WICKED! Part 2

So, today I am going to finish my talk about the production of Wicked I saw yesterday.

Boq was played by Zach Hanna. He did a great job as Boq. He gave us the Munchkin boy who loves Galinda, but seems incapable of not being a bit creepy. He also was able to pull off the angry version of Boq, both with his outburst to Nessa and when he was the Tin Man in March of the Witch Hunters. We don't see Boq that much, but what I did see from him was…

Ever so sorry.

I forget to come on nerdfighters so much! It annoys me when I do go on and then I realise I haven't been on for months! Anyways, new things; 1. Going to see Wicked again in March 2. May be going to see Avenue Q 3. Loved Twilight as a movie though there could be improvements :/ 4. I've started streetdancing ?! Which is incredibly unusual because I'm terribly uncoordinated. Anyways.. how is everyone ???????

Meeting Famous People

When I told most of my friends that I was going to meet Gregory Maguire the common response was "Who?"

Well in case you too are not familiar with who Gregory Maguire is, he is best known for being the author of the book Wicked, which inspired the tony award winning musical by the same name. He has also written many of childrens books. But his adult books are what I find particularly thrilling.

The Wizard of Oz is one of my favorite books, movies, and pop culture phenomenons. The Witch… Continue
