Final Day of BEDA
April is over already‽ Holy crap. This is sort of ridiculous. I mean, after next week I’ll officially be a junior in college. That is insane. I’m not allowed to be an adult yet, I would rather stay in college forever. Some of my friends are in fact attempting to do so by going to grad school. I’m not planning on grad school, so being halfway done with this is slightly terrifying. I’m going to have to, like, get a real job. *shudders* I’m not allowed to…

Day 28 and 29
Well goodness I am a mess with this. Not having classes really messes with my brain, and my calendar apparently. I going to give up on trying to really catch up and I’m just going to have this blog be 2 days worth of news and (not so) interesting information.
So, I go to my official Study Abroad advising appointment tomorrow, which is exciting, and a little bit terrifying. I mean, I’ve been saying that this is going to happen since my freshman year…

Day 27…late
So I forgot about yesterday’s blog completely. Oops. See what 3 hours of sleep and a French exam will do to a girl? I am now 100% done with French class for my college career, which is terribly exciting. The thing is, I love French. The language is beautiful and interesting. I also hate French class. This class has been the bulk of my homework for 4 semesters, and it’s not even really part of my major, it’s just a requirement for the College of Arts and…

Day 26
I am not in a particularly good mood tonight, so I will be brief. I got to watch the end of Little Dorrit tonight. (Gii!!!) BUT the PBS station went out at an extremely important plot point, so yeah, I missed like 5 minutes of the explanation of the whole 10 hour movie. *mutters some things not fit to write down* Needless to say, my roommate and I were not in the least pleased. But, all ended well, and we got to the end just fine after that.
AND I got to…

April 25, 2009
I'm actually on time for once on a Saturday! Shocking, I know.
It is so terribly annoying to me that I have time to write today, and nothing is coming. Really? REALLY?!?!? There were times this week when I wanted to just give up essay writing and sit outside with my notebook all day. But no, I had essays due and tests to study for. But now, when I actually have a day off (well, a sort of day off, I just have to edit an essay, not write a whole new one) I am drawing a…

Day 24
I finished one draft of my Nerdfighter paper. Yay! Now I have to, you know, fix it. In class today we peer edited papers (which I haven’t done since high school. Oh block classes, how you amuse me) and the guy who read my paper was, let’s just say, most decidedly not a Nerdfighter. He’s a football player (now, don’t get me wrong, I know some seriously Nerdfightastic football players. They are awesome. But this guy was definitely more the ‘I’m at college to play…

Day 23
Dash it all! I forgot to blog again today. This is what comes of staying up all night working on papers for a whole week; you forget that after midnight it is technically the next day.
Well, the semester is quickly coming to a close. Mind you, I still have about a million things to accomplish in the next two weeks (in the next 3 days nonetheless) but it is a comfort to know that I have dead days next week in which to at least sleep in a little bit. Plus my…

Day 22
Today is Earth Day, and it was quite a good one :) Our campus had a sort of Earth Day “fair,” where I got a free plant (and a pot) a free reusable grocery bag, and got some awesome clothes at a swap-meet. Today was beautiful (and suddenly summer—from highs in the 30’s to highs almost hitting 90 in one week is ridiculous!) and I spent pretty much all of the time when I wasn’t in class outside “studying.” Now I say “studying” instead of studying because I really…

Day 21
So today I thought I’d share with you a little snapshot of my life. Here is a thread off of a Facebook status that continued for far too long.
K: would like to go Bunburying
Lisa: Well, what a perfect coincidence! My dear cousin Bunbury is feeling rather ill and I was going to go and visit him this weekend!
K: Are you quite earnest?
Lisa: My dearest K, I am earnest in everything I undertake.
K: Well I fear you are lying, for it is…

Day 20
I’m awfully busy, but I thought I’d share with you something awesome that I’m sharing with my Victorian Literature class tomorrow.
I’ve recently discovered a band called Company of Thieves, and they are amazing. Not only is their sound unique and awesome, but they have great subject matter, not the least of which is Oscar Wilde, one of my favorite people. So, here’s the
link to the song “Oscar Wilde,”…

Day 19
So, quick blog today. I almost always forget about this. You would think that after 19 days I would be getting in the habit of writing this every night, but my world has been going in 8 million different directions lately and I’m never quite at balance with everything. So here I am, at 11 at night, when I should be reading Absalom, Absalom! (I am so far behind it’s not even funny. And the thing is, I like it, I want to read it. But I want to be able to take it at…

Day 18
I really shouldn’t go to the book store. Seriously. I go in looking for Pride and Prejudice and Zombies (which they didn’t have (curse you Barnes and Noble (this is what I get for going to a chain, karma gets me (yes, I love parenthetical phrases, sue me)))) and I come out with Little Dorrit and The Nonesuch. Now, I am a little justified in my purchases today. Little Dorrit is on my personal summer reading list, and I had to acquire it at some point. The…

Day 17
And I’m late with my blog…again
Today was interesting to say the least. I’ll skip all the mundane things and talk about the awesomeness that was tonight. Tonight our campus’ Habitat For Humanity hosted Shack-a-thon, which is an event where you basically donate $50 to Habitat and you get to build a cardboard shack. Now, you’re supposed to stay the night in this shack and learn about homelessness, but I am obviously not doing so. It’s the 3 hours of sleep last night thing. I…

Day 16
GAH! This profusion of essays is going to kill me. Or perhaps just kill my grades, because I can only write so many insightful sentences in one week. Really. Once I hit like, 15 pages written in three days (we’re talking about essays here) I just end up writing really sweeping statements that sound insightful, but are really just crap. Some professors fall for it, and love my long sentences that could be cut in half and still make the same point, but…

Day 15
So, I’ve been super busy lately with all sorts of school work, and it’s made me really crave creative writing. So, today I pulled up some stuff that I’d started last semester, but never quite finished (I say “quite” as if I wrote more than like a page of a short story or something. Ha!) But now I really, really want to work on it, even though I have exactly zero time to do anything but write essays, do French homework and read
Absalom,… Continue

Day 14
Yes, I’m procrastinating again, but when you’re writing about non-linear narrative in film all day long, you tend to go a little ADD.
Today I heard about another high school banning books, and I got so angry! I wrote them an e-mail expressing my feelings about book banning, but kept it short and to the point, as I didn’t know very many details. I then, however, pulled up my letter from last week about the school in Cleburne banning books (which I…

Day 13
I was watching the third part of “Little Dorrit” online today (okay, I really shouldn’t have been, but I needed a break, and it is a fairly good adaptation of a Dickens novel, so I feel justified (plus I’m really good at rationalizing things)) and I was trying to explain how much John loves Amy, and I said “He just loves the Dickens out of her…” and I thought, wait… can you love the Dickens out of a Dickensian character? How does that even work?…

Day 12
I am a little obsessed with Masterpiece Theater. Really. It’s getting to be awful. Right now they are playing Little Dorrit (Charles Dickens), starring Matthew MacFayden and Claire Foy, and I am just eating it up.
Little Dorrit is a Dickens novel that I’ve never read, so I can’t be sure that this adaptation is true to the novel in the slightest, but as a mini-series it is quite amazing! Much of the cinematography reminds me of the

OK. I totally forgot about this today
Today was generally AWESOME. My roommates (current and future) had our Easter Dinner. Yes, it was one day early, but we didn’t want to have to compete for the stoves in the dorm tomorrow when everyone else will be cooking, so we were proactive. We made chicken, lamb, mashed potatoes, and asparagus. It was delicious. We also all had Easter bunnies, and tiny Lindt sheep, which were milling around the center of the table as a centerpiece. It was weird,…
