The brainy and the bored came together today to pit their wits against one another in the name of words. That's right, we played Scrabble! There were 12 entrants in total, divided into (if my maths is correct) three groups of four.

The top two players from each game then progressed to the next round, where two games of three people took place, with the winners of those going head to head in the final.

With NaNoWriMo just a couple of days away, I decided that novelists shouldn't be the only writers having all the fun. I'd like to introduce NiNoCoDa, or Ning Novice Coder's Day. From now on I'll be running this on the 30th of October every year, so just before NaNo kicks off. Continue

So I've been working on a series of automatic moderation tools to put in the new chat, and I've come across an interesting dilemma. What actually needs to be filtered? And I'm not just on about words, here. There's also links, and topics, and phrases. The reason this is so difficult... Anyone? Well, in a nutshell, it's you lot. The average user. The people who speak in chat. You never really complain about anything until after preventive action has been taken. Continue

I embedded a different room in place of the last one; it now falls under Ningmaster control. Additionally, a password is required in order to broadcast. It's our favourite acronym!

Recently, the General Information page was edited illegitimately, with obscenities posted to it. We've fixed it, but the question still remains as to how it was compromised in the first place. Only somebody with editing rights would have been able to do so, and I'm sure you all remember how Caton got compromised a while back. Continue
