SCANNER ART

Gonna stick these up here in one place. These were created by layering stencils (usually used so there are some paint blobs on 'em) onto the scanner, probably putting a solid color piece of paper on top and scanning them in. Some have Photoshop filters on them and some not. You can tell which. I'll put one on this post and the rest into comments.… Continue

THE NOT SO DAILY DOODLES

You know, Jared Knight was right about these little 3x5 cards. They really are interesting to do. I watch them happening and this sort of lexicon developing and I have no idea where it's all coming from. I don't think they really look like the rest of the stuff I do but maybe the shapes are similar. The limitations of just the black sharpie on the white card makes you do the dots and stripes thing, or makes ME do that. Somebody else might do complex cross-hatch shading or something. I've tried v… Continue

Summer in the City

OK. I've promised myself that I wouldn't bitch about the heat this year, especially because right up until yesterday summer has been very merciful. Marine layer "June Gloom" right through August. It is now HOT and will be until Halloween. But I am really not going to bitch about it because I am NOT one of the firefighters that are in the middle of THIS! These are shots I just took from my neighborhood. I have never seen it like this. I'll just put the first shot here then add more in the Comment… Continue

Susan Shapiro's Personality Type Analysis

Kdot said to me "do you realize that you have milked senpa since september, not needing to post a single blog post since then? now post something new Hey, that's TRUE. So I have spent waaaay more time than I have today searching the interwebs for a link to an article written in the '80's sometime for the Village Voice by Susan Shapiro that is one of the funniest things I've ever read. I happen to have typed the whole thing when my newsprint copy was becoming too diaphanous to read. But not wanti… Continue

Senpa Peep

A surprise house guest appeared at my door day before yesterday. He's a recent immigrant to our shores from a former French colony. His entry was sponsored by our friends, the Geeks O'Nature of Bishop, CA. He makes a lovely house guest. He's very low maintenance, doesn't take up much room and his enthusiasm is infectious. He has told me some of his story and I'll share what I know so far with you. Here is his photo ID. His story will continue in "Comments." Click on photos for enlargement. And n… Continue

Mortifying Shrine to Womanhood

So, I was telling Evangeline about this so here it is. I made this when my niece was 13 and she started her period. It was meant to be funny and celebratory as opposed to the slap girls received in days of old. But she was so horrified by the very idea that she never saw it until she was 18. Then it made her laugh, but she still hasn't asked to put it in her place. :-) Goodie! I get to keep it. I like it. I'll put one photo here and stick the rest below in comments. The little pink rolled up "di… Continue

ANOTHER DINNER PARTY - A FEMINIST ART PROJECT

So I got another camera and can take photos again!! Yay!! I discovered something in a drawer the other day that I had forgotten about. It was an art project I did about 8 years ago. It was inspired by Judy Chicago's "Dinner Party" of the '80s. Dinner Party I was sick in bed for about a week and I pasted up a bunch of paper plates with images I'd been collecting from magazines. They were all images that I'd found had contributed and con… Continue

3rd Grade Nerd Cred + Hair!

So after seeing Keeley's nerd credentials, I started looking through old photos and found this 3rd Grade class photo. The photographer was doing sleight-of-hand stuff while shooting, I guess to either catch some interested and therefore interesting expressions on these kids' faces or just to get them to settle down. Probably that latter. I discovered when looking at this photo that I was probably in an all-nerd class. At least a great many of these guys could use this as a nerd ID. But look at e… Continue

Keeley's Question: do you find the process of creation painful? y/n?

OK Keeley girl, my first response to the above quesion was "y" but now I have to say "n". Not painful. I'm not good with pain of any kind. If it were really painful, I'm sure I woudn't do it. It's not pain that I feel when I do an art project, it's ANXIETY. And big, deep anxiety that causes me to pace and indulge in all kinds of avoidance behavior - like I'm about to rob a bank and am just working up my nerve to slam through that door and shout "On the gound, NOW." The only time I'm not feeling… Continue

MEL TAGGED ME

Okee Dokee - 5 things.

1. You would have to live with me to know how lazy I am. Most people think I'm a Doer. FAKE OUT. I do every task very quickly and efficiently so I can get to the do nothing and be lazy part. I can accomplish masses of things but the motivation is always to get to the do nothing and be lazy part.

2. I daydream all the time. I always have. I have imaginary homes, lofts, huts, caves, cottages in every part of the world. And I fill them with imaginary frie

What Are Your Artistic Influences?

Naturegeek asked me a question: "What are your artistic influences?" A polite, innocuous question like "How are you?" Now, "normal" people know the answer to that. "Fine." But not us Nerdfighters! WE say, "Now that you've asked, here, sit down, have a gummi bear....my first memory of myself as a sentient being with a physical body was...." Having known naturegeek for lo these many days, I'm pretty sure she would appreciate an introspective look back..back..back but just in case she wanted a P
