Nerdfighters

She was diagnosed with tumors on her liver 5 years ago. She's had a pretty good 5 years. A pretty good 17 years actually. The last couple of days she wasn't feeling herself. Last night and this morning she kept drinking water and going to the cat box but not peeing. Took her to the doctor this morning. Her kidneys were failing and I made the call. The world has lost one it's SWEETEST li'l spirits. I will miss my baby gurrrrr.

Deb, I'm late (as always) but I wanted to say I'm sorry about Dinah. Sending you lots of hugs.

Sorry to hear about Dinah's passing. We have a little altar for our pets that have passed. I'll light a candle for Dinah and let ours know to keep an eye out for her. Not sure if I believe it or not, but it makes me feel a better. I've started imagining our pups and cats afterlife a bit like The Secret Box (yay Evangeline) story.

Thanks NG & Keel. Yeah it's the horrible part alright. And failing kidneys are a pretty clear sign so I was grateful for that. I hung onto Juevon (my last cat) a couple months too long for his own good. I learned. But it's a bitch, no doubt about it. I've climbed into bed the last 2 nights without crying so that's progress. See Dinah had a going to bed routine that I NEVER got tired of. It was so cute. Gonna shut up now. Thanks guys.

oh deb. im SO sorry to hear you lost your girl. seventeen years is something, thats for sure. you so made the right decision, but i know you know that. losing a pet is one of the hardest things in my opinion; beings of unconditional love, cats and dogs are. My 2 pooches are getting older and the thought of losing either and eventually both is almost too much to consider. the only thing i hope for is a clear signal that they are not be able to recover so i can make a sound decision, knowing it was simply time.
big hugs from me xox

Oh Deb! We get so used to these warm furry creatures that share our lives, and it's making me cry just thinking about losing Cricket... she sleeps with us now. She is our hairy black child that walks on all fours and can't talk well... I am sorry you lost your furry warm fuzzy purring friend. :(

It's SO hard to make that call - but when we adopt a pet, we are not only responsible to give them a good life, but to offer them a good death, as well. Such a huge responsibility and so hard to let go when we selfishly want to hang on for dear life, but there comes a time when you know it's not what's best for them to keep them alive, and that takes courage and great love.

*BIG HUG*

Thanks Meli. It takes some getting used to. I'm still having some phantom Dinah moments but it will get better.

Damn Deb. So sorry to hear about your baby girl. There's nothing useful I can think of to say. Please don't be too lonely without her. The thing about pets is they don't last long enough. It takes a strong heart to love them and lose them. Like you said, she had a pretty good run.

Thanks danman. I'm so sorry you lost your cat but am glad you have more little guys. I agree with you, my whole life I've only taken rescued animals. I'll take your advice under advisement. Right now I don't want to go through that end again. And I'm getting older now and I could go first. That would be awful for a kitty. So I'm thinking - no more pets. It's OK. I can travel now. I hated to leave my cats alone and haven't traveled as much as I would like. So there's a silver lining.

It is sad that you have lost your companion. Hope you will get new one - it will make you much better. And also it will make a cat much happier , especially if you will take it from the street or an animal shelter.

5 months ago my cat who was just close to 6 y/o was run over by some idiot in a car (he must have gone too fast since she probably had the lungs torn away - was dead instantly from the impact, also it was a very cautious animal) It was too bad since the cat did not like people much but was especially devoted to me, walking to the end of the street when i was coming home and sleeping in bed with me esp. when i was sick.

I was quite bad and did not sleep well and had some strange behaviours but all improved when i got two new cats which although can not replace her, are awesome on their own.
