Nerdfighters

Colours, and their relevance to the new site.

So, looks interesting, right? This is the prospective layout of the new site's homepage.

The focus of this blog post is the colour scheme, and as a community, our opinions in regard to it. It was chosen by the people, and the colours featured can be found here: http://kuler.adobe.com/#themeID/1183465. When I voice my own opinions (as I'm about to), bear in mind that I am not - in any way, shape or form - trying to influence yours.

I'll start with some positives. I like the white background, with the yellow module boxes highlighted in the foreground. The shade of yellow is pale and pastel-y, and therefore most colours of text are easily readable over it. I also like the navigation bar, in the two shades of green.

And... some negatives. I'm not so much of a fan of the deep red link colour. It seems like too much of a change from the general yellow/green theme that's already going on quite nicely.

Another colour scheme that many users appreciated was this one: http://kuler.adobe.com/#themeID/1204740. Feel free to comment on this scheme, too.

I'm pretty sure that my part is done. It's now up to you, the Nerdfighting community, to comment with your thoughts and opinions. What looks good, what doesn't work so well, et cetera.

I wish you all a pleasant morning/afternoon/evening.

DFTBA!

That would be nifty, but I feel it would get annoying after 90 seconds

As for the drop shadows ... wouldn't it be cool if there was an option to have your mouse pointer act as a light source, and the drop shadows moved according to the location of that! XD

I like the other one more! Though I think that this (the picture above) is more appropriate for Nerdfighteria.

Oh, also obviously the scale of things is wrong. I'm not actually suggesting making the forum activity text tiny and the video text huge and stretched (same for the buttons), but this is a box size and layout I think would work better.

I think the drop shadows are a bit heavy.

The whole thing seems to be a bit cluttered and disoranized to me (3 columns? Stacking stuff is probably a better idea), and the color scheme I find a bit boring. Now, I'm no webdesigner.
But anyways, this is how I would fix it only using paint:

Now, if you can ignore how crappy that looks due to having made it in paint, I feel like this would be a much better way to lay stuff out.

I've asked Paige Railstone to produce a full-page version of the sample she made and posted here. Once that's ready I'll post it here, and we'll have an opinion-gathering session on that.

Perhaps Flap Doodle could be the designer? She seems to know what she's talking about.

First off, the layout itself is beautiful. I'm super excited for the new site.

That being said I really like the second color scheme much better. I think this scheme is a little bland, and I'm really not a fan of the pale yellow.
