Doctor Who, what it means to be Nerdy :D

Aside from the VlogBrothers and my ego (heh), Doctor Who is quintessential in the existence of Nerdfighters. I mean from the Forums to the Chat there is a very large chance someone is discussing the finer points of the show. As someone who watches it but does not delve too deeply into the inner workings I am intrigued to hear other people's opinions. Such as this review posted by someone on Tumblr of last week's episode: http://thehippestkidsintown.tumblr.com/post/10403225237/doctor-who-... .

Now we come to the season finale next week all eyes are on Matt Smith's incarnation of the Doctor as an intricate plot unfolds leading to his death.

At this point I want to open up the floor and ask "Who is the better Doctor?". David Tennant brought a charm like no other to the role of our favourite wayward Time Lord while Christopher Eccelston gave us a somewhat more rugged Doctor. Matt Smith is presenting us with a more flamboyant version. I would say you cannot pick an overall favourite because they each brought out a different side of the Doctor, but no doubt people will disagree!

Of course they say behind every great man is a great woman, and the Doctor is usually no exception to this. He has managed to get together an eclectic band of companions over the course of the six series, from Rose Tyler, to Amy Pond the companion has always been an integral part of the Whoverse. My personal favourite has to be Martha Jones simply because she was cheeky, and to me stood out more than simply a companion of the Doctor, more an equal in the series. I am likely to get shot down by Pond-fans but hey, everyone is entitled their opinion right?? (Except the Daleks, they are just mean!). That is not discounting Jack Harkness or Rory Williams of course, they too have made their mark in the Doctor;'s life.

Bringing up the subject of Jack Harkness, Torchwood has brought a much darker side of the Whoverse, highlighting the follies of Humanity as much as the aliens of the series. It too brought us another set of very different characters, but do they compare to those in Doctor Who?

So in honour of next week's finale I wish to find out your opinions on anything Who, from the best incarnation to the best companion, or the scariest Villain or the best thought out plot points. The point of this exercise is to determine who you guys rate most, or alternatively dislike the most. I will put together my findings and present them in a neat and tidy little blog next week before the show is due to air in the UK.

So comment below, send a message or discuss in the forum/chat, I'll be looking forward to hearing from you!

Thanks for Reading!

Best Doctor-can't decide between 4, 8, 10 or 11

Best companion-Rose without question

Scariest villian-definitely the Vashta Nerada-I've had at least 3 nightmares about them (trapped in a church with my cousin and loads of other people and this guy out of Waterloo Road (yeah, I'm confused about that bit too) has got two shadows and God, it's scary) and I've also had nightmares about the Peg Dolls (where I was locked in the bathroom with them all waiting outside and I had to escape out the window but they were waiting for me) and the Adiposes (it was weird so I'm not gonna try to explain it).

What I think about Doctor Who-AWESOME!!! I definately believe in aliens and that time travel is possible (I'm disappointed that I'll never get a time-machine though, because I said if I ever get one, I'll come back for me but I never have :(  maybe I can't travel back inside my own timeline...)

Say no to Martha Jones!  Sorry, but she seemed like a poor incarnation of Rose.  Rose and the Doctor had much better chemistry at that.  I actually have to love any other companion he had better than Martha.

I agree with Joel Schama. Matt and David have honestly done much better at portraying this iconic character than Chris did. My Doctor however is and always will be Matt and I think Steven Moffat sums it up best in this quote:

The very first person we saw for Dr Watson was Matt Smith, who came in and gave a very good audition - but he didn’t have a chance in hell of getting it because he was clearly more of a Sherlock Holmes than a Dr Watson. There was also something a bit barmy about him - and you don’t actually want that for Dr Watson. You want somebody a bit straighter. But Matt gave a very good account of himself and you could feel the effort in him clamping down on his barminess in order to do the audition. That was the thing, it was all about finding the match, and we saw a lot. Including him, a week before he auditioned for Doctor Who. Thank god though, because he is the perfect Doctor.

Steven Moffat (via smithingly)

What Steven is talking about is Matt's audition for Sherlock (another show he writes) and how they were glad that they did not use him for Watson because he came back a week later and they found the perfect Doctor. Steven does this by talking about his character.
In addition to this I shall never hate on any Tennant or Eccleston fans.

@Lindsay: Why isn't there much love for 9? For me personally, as I mentioned, I had already seen him in other movies so he wasn't the Doctor to me. He was Ok, but I don't the role was right for him. David and Matt have done MUCH better! In my opinion.

Am I the only who who has Christopher Eccelston as their favorite? I love the way he portrays the Doctor, and that strange little smile he does...

Haha I think he make the perfect Doctor

I think Matt Smith's my favourite doctor, but maybe I'm biased 'cause I only properly started watching the episodes about 1 year ago, I caught up on previous episodes but there's something differennt about watching it live, isn't there? My favourite companions are Amy, Donna and Rory :) I think the scariest monsters were either the Vashta Nerada (because I spend so much time in libraries) or the Empty Children (freaked me out for weeks)!! :D

Why isn't there much love for 9? He was awesome! I think he did an awesome job of bringing the doctor back! He brought a serious attitude while still being funny! I wish he decided to do another season! And then comes 11! He's awesome! My favorite companion is Rory! He just loves Amy so freaking much it's adorable!

David Tennant is my favorite doctor, then Matt smith, then Christopher.

But then, I think that David Tennant can do no wrong.

I am the only real doctor who fan girl I have met so this is nice. Matt smith is a more childish fun-loving doctor witch is great! but David tennet had a charm about him that made everone love him, the new Doctor calls himself the Doctor all the time when the others used John Smith if they were trying to blend in with humans, the only time Matt used John Smith is when Pond called him 'Not the Doctor' which wasnt true because he was the real doctor she said that to.

It's hard to say who's my favorite Doctor... I might have to go with Matt Smith though, it was with the 11th Doctor that I became obsessed with Doctor Who. He is absolutely amazing and as time goes on he just gets better and better(and he was brilliant to begin with). But I also really really love David Tennant and Tom Baker (I kinda go back and forth on with those 3 on who's my favorite) My first Doctor was Christopher Eccelston, and although he was good and it was because of him that I liked Doctor Who, he's just not my favorite.

Favorite companion? This is sooo hard because I have absolutely loved every single companion of the newer series! But I absolutely adore Rory! I'm a total Doctor/Rose shipper too.

I have to say that the weeping angels totally freak me out but the silence... they're also creepy. And then there's the Cybermen, for some reason I've always liked Cybermen episodes. And I might just get shot for this, but I've never liked the Daleks, they've always gotten on my nerves and I'm glad that there hasn't been a Dalek episode in quite some time.

As far as plot arcs go... well I have to wait till the season is over before I make any final decisions.
