Decreasing World Suck, One Nerdfighter at a Time

I want to know what other Nerdfighters are doing to decrease World Suck. It can be something really small, or something major. I've seen several other blog posts on this, here and also in My Pants, but I don't think it can be emphasized enough - decreasing World Suck is an essential part of being a Nerdfighter! So, please, comment, share, and DFTBA!!

I should give credit to Filmlady for her "TADA List" blog post for a good model for this! Also to Glory for having her entire blog dedicated to sharing how she is decreasing World Suck.

This is different than Evangeline's "Sharing the Awesome" blog post, though - that was about what is decreasing your personal World Suck. Mostly, I'd like to focus on how you are decreasing World Suck for others (which can include the environment, animals, etc, in addition to people either individually or in groups). You can share ideas that we may consider doing, charities/causes you support that you think are great, or just tell us what you did TODAY to make the world a better place.

yay for decreasing world suck! i work at a transitional homeless shelter full time and am also a full time social work student. as nerdfighters we should all use our powers for good not evil! LOL.

My husband and I sought out the Boys and Girls Club so that we would feel like our job was really contributing. We are getting ready to buy a house so the we can Foster/Adopt older children in the state system and I am volunteering with the forest service in March to clean artifacts and preserve cultures long past.

Wow, what a neat program that seems to be!! And so much more important than micro-Einstein academies - ha. Kids get so pushed today to achieve, a program that teaches life balance and joy in learning and living and becoming well-adjusted enough to do well in school on their own terms is a breath of fresh air!

Along with 4 other moms, I share teaching an in-home preschool-like program called Joy School to our kids (see valuesparenting.com). Joy School teaches the kids to have joy in life as well as other values that are important. Eg. in January we taught about making goals and having order in our lives. Oh BOY! I've got joy!

i work to decrease World Suck by reading the Chronicles of Narnia out loud to my children (ages 5 and 3 1/2). We started with The Magicians Nephew and have continued on. Last night we started Prince Caspian. It's good fun time together that keeps them away from the TV!

We also have those twirly, low-wattage light bulbs in every single light fixture in our house.

I am reconnecting with my baby sister in our own Brotherhood 2.0-esque project on YouTube called "Sisters Who." We are having fun being creative and sharing our happiness with others

Locks of Love is a great cause - I have other friends who have done this - one, a teacher in Boulder, did it with several members of her class! Way to go.

I donated my long hair to make wigs for children who have undergone cemo. The organizion is called Locks of Love. I have pics on my page. Thanks to Nature Geek for making me think harder about how to help others.

Wow - you do a lot and that is great!! I love the idea of gifts like that - my husband and I hate the commercialism and all the stuff at Christmas - we really don't want any stuff. I love the feeling of giving someone a gift they really like that is meaningful, however, and I think next year I'm going to send out wish list with things like tenthousandvillages.com and the like.
