So, is it sad that my first blog stems from being too bored on a Saturday night?

Because I seem to be a boring person with a lot of time on my hands, I think I will talk about my day week because I have a lot to say about it!

This week was very hectic. I had to find two last minute accompanists for my recital and scholarship auditions that are happening on Monday and Tuesday. Luckily I found a couple of people to play for me (it will not be cheap... $70 total - geez!) I just hope I make Honor's Recital on my vocal solo. I'm singing "Vieille Chanson" by Bizet and one the judges will probably be the one who is fluent in French. I'm supposed to meet with him at some point but he has not emailed me back... Hopefully he'll do that VERY SOON.

Anyway, I've overbooked. In addition to having auditions this coming week I had pit orchestra rehearsal all day and will have rehearsal all afternoon tomorrow. We're doing Pippin this next weekend and I'm suddenly the only flute player in the ensemble (which isn't completely bad.) Now I get all the solos but slightly more stress. OH, and I finally understand that my arms are too short to play the alto flute effectively. My wrist hurt really bad after practicing today. I can't hit low C's (in the key of G... so that's a... G, haha... wow. I'm clearly not thinking.)

Do you know how ridiculous the music in Pippin is? It's so hippie sounding. Not to be crude, but it sounds like we're all in a bad porno, LOL. Also, do you know those settings on electric pianos you play with when you want to be obnoxious? Well, we get to use them and they actually fit the music. It's quite amusing. Here's an idea:
groove+guitar.wav
90+BPM+PHONK.wav
Those two pretty much sum up the sound of the music in this show, LOL!

Uhm... Oh yes, tonight was my school's Spring Formal. They had it at the Sears Tower and two of my friends went together. I bet it was BOOOORING! The dance ended at 11:00 (I'm in central time) so they should be getting back around midnight. I would have gone but I thought I had rehearsal all through the day. Nope. But it's okay - I saved $40-$50 and I really do need the money, haha. However, because of the rehearsal I had to miss seeing the CSO perform "The Planets"... I was really upset about that one. A couple of my friends got to go and I bet it was amazing!

Instead of going to Spring Formal, I took a two hour nap (because I have a terrible cold), ate a late dinner then practiced for an hour. None of my music major friends were around to do anything fun either so I was rather unproductive. I could have done my theory homework but, of course, I did NOT want to.

...

Okay, so now I will talk about why I'm so busy as of late. We had our spring break ("Spring Break - woohoo!") a couple of weeks ago. YET, the Wind Symphony did not actually get a spring break. Instead we took a week long tour of the upper midwest. Hours of bus rides and cold weather. Kapelle (our choir) went to sunny Florida... The up-side of this whole situation is that our free-day was spent on a sunny ski slope and theirs was a rainy beach. Which is better? No contest.

Anyway, I'm busy because as soon as we got back (at 10:30 PM) we had to go back to our classes. Without actually having a "break". Unfortunately for some of us, we had 8 AM class the next morning. I had to play the frickin' tuba after aching from skiing and getting very little sleep for ten days. I'm a piccolo player so the tuba is ridiculously large and heavy for me (plus I'm short...) I noticed that all day Monday the music majors were slumping around while the rest of campus was smiling and awake. Suddenly, we had four days to "study" for a THEORY test one prof. assigned for Friday and three days for a sight-singing test we had on Thursday. We were all very bitter that week.

The next Wednesday we nearly died in a highway accident on the way home to St. Louis for Easter break. Thankfully, my friend (who was driving) veered out to the center of the highway and got us stuck in mud.
Dear God, thank you for mud. Amen.

I think I am done ranting for now. It's about time I got my PJ's on and continued listening to my nerdy LSM music... Thanks for reading if you did! Loves!

PS, I think my annoying cluster-mates are coming up the stairs. Better shut my door from their drunken stupor... ;)
