Nerdfighters

I've added my first-ever screen-capture video on our network, you can find it at G:/Shared/JohnDavis/Vlog Videos/1 refedit_vs_bedit.avi. In it I give a brief glimpse of the "Open Glazing Project"... an expansive duty of updating the details used in the EDL (Electronic Detail Library) focused on a more generic representation of glazed units within the standard detail blocks. I should mention that my observations concerning RefEdit vs. BEdit are only an early exploration of both commands, which are relatively new to me. I've since been shown that RefEdit can get access to the entire "big" block by selecting the upper-most choice when prompted at the onset of the command. Like many of the things I blog and vlog about, seldom can you take my ramblings as "scripture"... but hey, it's a journey, not a destination!

An added bounus (and duty of this project) will be evident to the end-user when it comes time to mirror or otherwise manipulate these details. MTEXT is being phased out in favor of ATTRIBUTE DEFINITONS due to their potential for use in reporting and (more importantly) their ability to "self-right" themselves to maintain "plan readability" and to be moved, rotated and otherwise manipulated independently of the block's linework. This is the reason behind my last post, subtitled "Working with AutoCAD "attributes" with the goal of not exploding blocks...".

Now for a qualified! ATTRIBUTES WILL NOT ACT AS EXPECTED WITHIN "NESTED BLOCKS". You will find it necessary to explode the big block (NOT the individual die shapes) for attributes to be able to flex their AutoCAD muscles and make your drafting duties (if not you life) a little less painful.

I had first intended to post the videos to "My Page" on this site, but I've since discovered that the streaming video option is not available to us here at work. I've turned off the autoplay feature of my profile page, but please enjoy the 100-or-so songs and spoken word offerings I have in my Music Player widget!

Oh yea, you may notice the acronym DFTBA being used on this NerdFighters site... it stands for Don't Forget To Be Awesome. NerdFighters are all about fighting "World Suck" and I suppose that includes "Work Suck" too!

So DFTBA,

JD
