After all the noise McCain's made about Obama's supposed youth and inexperience, it would seem strange for him to choose someone who's three years younger than Obama and has far less experience than the Illinois senator, unless you consider one important fact: McCain's VP choice has two X chromosomes, while Obama's has only one. Yes, Sarah Palin is a woman. So if you were hoping to vote for Hillary and are feeling disappointed, you should vote for McCain instead, because any woman will do, right?

That seems to be the only reason for McCain's choice. She has next to no experience, no one's ever heard of her, and she contradicts his promise of change and reform by her ties to big oil and her dismal environmental record (I knew of her previously through her support of aerially gunning down wolves in Alaska and her opposition to protecting polar bears). But, hey, she's a woman!

I supported Hillary, but you can bet that I'm going to vote for Obama now that he's been nominated. I hope that people see through this ploy, and I really hope that Hillary supporters aren't so bitter about her loss that they'd vote for someone so completely opposed to everything that Hillary (and Obama) stand for out of spite.

That's my hope.

I was a Hillary supporter that will still vote Obama, too. I think McCain is missing the fact that Palin's stance on a number of issues that are important to women are more patriarchal than feminist. Hillary's supporters tended to be for more gun control, pro-abortion, and pro-gay marriage, but Palin has an opposite position on each. If anything, she's going to backfire on him in the poll booth.

Right on! I admit, after I heard of Palin's Veep nomination, I thought it was a rather clever move on McCain's part. Not that I was thinking for once second that I would switch parties because of her! But now that I know of her atrocious background, I sincerely hope that no one else is swayed by the fact that she's a woman.
