The world population, as you watch this video, is about to hit an arbitrary landmark. But, still, the growing world population is not an insignificant issue, nor is the explosion in resource use in the developing world. But overall...I'm optimistic.

I don't think people dying is necessarily a bad thing and certainly it is not a tabu-topic. How many people are out there who would rather die than be attached to a machine for several years to come? Dying is a natural result of life and there is nothing inhumane about letting people die if they wish it so.

Yes, I endorse death, because it is a natural part of life. But I am also opposed to killing, which is one of the reasons why I am vegan. The topic is too hot for most people to fumble around with it. But if we don't discuss it, we will be in more trouble more quickly.

The USA has a great history of killing people ... and getting new ones born rapidly. But who in the world needs eight kids? I don't understand! Having more children means more difficulties with the little resources that your family has available. If the inhabitants of an industrialized country don't get that, how do you want to convey that message to the people that we are robbing the resources from and who, in turn, cannot even afford to learn to read?

I am confused. And frustrated. Overpopulation is a problem and increasing the number of people is not going to help us. I know that population control is a very unpopular topic, but it is of great importance that we talk about it. Just look at how long it took us from 'accepting global warming as a pertinent issue of our time' to 'actually trying to do something about it'!

I don't demand a solution, because the problem is enormous, but we should at the very least discuss the issues at stake.

Why am I actually posting this as a comment at the Ning? Because it is way too long for YouTube.
