I was at the Northwest YouTube gathering in Portland this weekend, so I wasn't around to post a blog with videos. There were actually quite a few nerdfighters at the gathering, and lots of fun times were had. :)
Last week, Alex Day (Nerimon) announced a DFTBA Recordscontest involving making a music video for Chameleon Circuit's song "An Awful Lot of Running." I've seen a few entries, and they're all really great. Check some of the out:
A really neat video that Michael Aranda put together using sound clips and video from a visit to an abandoned oil refinery:
Also, if you haven't seen it yet, here's a great video of one of his Ford Fiesta Movement challenges: Journey to Yosemite!
Gatherings!
There were a couple of gatherings over the past week: the London Nerdfighter Gathering and The Northwest YouTube Gathering (which included many awesome nerdfighters). I had some amazing video footage of the Northwest Gathering, including clips of Bill Martin (Dr. Noise) and Molly (sweetafton23) playing some awesome music in our hotel room, but my camera is unfortunately missing. Thankfully, when you're at a youtube gathering, there are cameras aplenty filming pretty much everything, so I'm sure there will be lots of footage floating around (there were at least 80 people in attendance this year, btw!). :)
Here's some footage of the London Gathering with Maureen Johnson, from Dave (OSUbrit):
John (johnzinferno) was probably the youngest YouTuber (and Nerdfighter. Hoo-Hah!) at the Northwest gathering, and he put together a video with a really great concept. Take a glimpse into his memories:
I try not to get too personal in my video blogs here, but I'm going to say a little bit about the Northwest Youtube gathering. The gathering was particularly wonderful and emotional for me because I reunited with many friends and nerdfighters that I have met in the past, and I also met and got to spend quality time with some of my absolute favorite people that I had never met outside of little boxes on YouTube and/or TokBox, BlogTV, etc. Some of my best friends who are scattered across the country came together over the weekend, and it was incredible. By now I should be used to how incredibly nice, friendly, and inviting most youtubers and nerdfighters are, but I am still amazed by the energy and friendliness each time I meet new people at these gatherings.
(There's an alternate version of this picture with the entire gathering doing the Nerfighter hand sign, but I haven't come across a copy of it yet.)
I'm drained after a weekend of laughter, dancing, singing, hugs, lots of video taping, and difficult goodbyes (with more than a few tears), so I'm finally going to rest after one of the best weekends of my life.
