Good day my dear Nerdians, Nerds and Nerdfighters!
In this blog I'll be talking/typing about a wee thing that's popped up on the Tumblr.
As this half wit tends to swear and curse, if said manner of writing makes you uncomfortable.
I'll do my best blank out the words, at which point you can insert whatever you want to assume that's being said.
But anywho!
Onto the blog!
~ Which will first contain quotes from the owner of said Tumblr ~
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"first of all, the man is a known misogynist"
Yes my dear Neridans, apparently by calling his wife:
" The Yeti "
John Green is but being hateful towards woman, he despises them and all that they stand for.
Or..
If we use our head.
By not giving away his personal information, eg, his wife's name.
He's stopped her becoming the fixation of creepers and numptues on the youtube and interweb.
What we have here is a classic ad hominem, an attack without merit or evidence.
First of all dear:
" Stop John Green. "
Provide the facts, or keep your libellous and defamatory nonsense to yourself.
~~~
"the only point he’s making is that women in his books are there to be coveted sexual objects for lonely nerd boys."
Alas, the author seems to be assuming that for boys:
Girl = sex object.
I'm sorry, did I lose part of my book?
Did someone come in and steal the part where all the girls are to be objects for a boys desire, then replaced it with emotion, compassion and love for a female characters?
Really?
It may come as a surprise for this person.
But boys do not only want sex. It's a natural part of our existence and the likes, but to ignore the companionship and the friendship John's characters have, and look at their relationship purely on a physical level is intellectually dishonest and foolish at best of times.
~~~
"He’s really dismissive of people of lower intelligence and thinks that he’s better than everyone because he can write pseudo-philosophical crap and treat women like S*** in all of his books (they’re all either fake characters, characterized like s***, or killed off). And his fans just suck his metaphorical c*** because they’re blind enough to think he’s a good person."
Ahh, once more we meet, my old friend o' ad hominem! Once more the author makes the claim, and neither backs up the point or provide evidence for this 'reasoning' - to suggest there was reason used in this blog's creation is taking it a step too far in my own opinion -. By all means, can someone quote me a line from John Green as to when he says down with the people who're lower in regards to intelligence!.. But till then, I'mma assume the author o' the blog has had one too many Mushrooms and strooms.
PS: On the point to characters being fake:
The
Books
Are
Fictional!
Honestly, did this numpty think she was buying from the true story section?
Good lord.
On behalf of all Nerdfighteria.
~~~
"He’s such an ableist it makes me mad. Being smart doesn’t make you any better than anyone else, and neither does have a big vocabulary."
Now hold the gun right here. Can anyone spot the word being used where it shouldn't? That's right Ableism.
......
My
God.
Not being smart, isn't a disability.
It is not something that cannot be improved or changed.
~ Well, unless you're a lazy sod. ~
Can anyone point to where John Green said we should keep away from those 'mentally challenged disabled people'?
No?
One more, ad hominem.
Though, the author did get one thing right.
Having a big vocabulary doesn't make you better than anyone else.
It also doesn't mean you know what those words means.
~~~
In regards to people who like John Green:
"They’re just as sad and pathetic as One Direction, or Justin Bieber fans. Entirely blinded by their obsession with some guy just because they don’t know any better than they can’t even recognize when there are things wrong with him.
Newsflash for you, Nerdfighters. John Green is sexist. If you would like some concrete evidence, don’t worry. It’ll come.
Read book by women. Stop allowing men like John Green to act like father figures to teenage girls. Stop listening to his advice. He has no place giving it. He is a sexist. He is a misogynist. He is an ableist who thinks that just because someone has smart, they are better than someone who isn’t.
Recognize your privilege, John Green. You’re just a man. Hah"
Once more, the author throws around words like Sexist, Misogynist and ableist - I'm not even entirely sure that's a word >_> ~ and considers saying big words that sound bad, to count as evidence. No, my dear silly author.
It means you're intellectually dishonest, morally sickening and rather pathetic in the way you attack someone for everything and apparently anything.
Apparently, men aren't allowed to write for woman characters.
Apparently, being a man is a privilege.
And apparently, this author couldn't come up with evidence.
As the best she could do was suggest:
" Read book by women. "
Seriously?
Alas, trolls will be trolls. Fools will be fools.
And attention seekers will seek attention.
I think all of that sums up this author rather nicely.
Comment by David J- Operations Admin on April 29, 2012 at 10:22pm Well I will keep this brief, as sleepiness has finally caught up with me, but a blog in my opinion is a medium through which one can express opinion and therefore invite discussion or a counter argument. So what Thomas has done here, and in a very eloquent way is picked apart that rather nasty and quite frankly defamatory Tumblog with logic. What he said was right, he may have gotten a tad worked up or so it sounded, but had I come across that blog first, I would have done the same. Bravo Thomas, keep up the good work!
Comment by Brandon Shuemaker on April 29, 2012 at 9:02pm Exactly. I totally agree. Thanks for this post by the way.
It was an interesting event, I didn't even know said blog existed, and I'm glad I got to see it before it disappeared. Even though it wasn't aligned with my beliefs, it brought me once again to the idea that not everyone thinks the same as I do. And the world is filled with lots of different opinons.
I'm sure most of the people, if not all of the people here agree with us, but it's always interesting to see other ideas.
Comment by God ~blogs admin ~ on April 29, 2012 at 8:52pm Oh, I didn't think you were attacking my beliefs, no harm no foul there.
Judging from the wee things people were leaving, some were simply awful and dreadful. Screaming curses and the likes never solves anything, and only makes it clear in their mind that they're right.
Comment by Brandon Shuemaker on April 29, 2012 at 8:39pm I stopped reading after the Head Desk part, if it's any consolation.
Comment by Brandon Shuemaker on April 29, 2012 at 8:37pm Oh right, I wasn't trying to imply anything about your piece at all actually. I didn't even really read your post all the way through, no offense. I was just super surprised that this person could hate someone who writes books that I enjoy or even cherish (in the case of Looking for Alaska).
So I read through this person's Tumblr, and then what I wrote was purely based on what I saw on said Tumblr.
Sorry, I didn't mean to assault your beliefs.
Comment by God ~blogs admin ~ on April 29, 2012 at 8:32pm You seem to be suggesting that whilst I wrote that, I was but an angry be it, short Scottish squid of anger, Brandon. Far from it, I took each of her main points, applied them to logic and reason and but found myself asking the same question over and over.
Where is the evidence for these blatant and nonsensical.
~
As for your point on my 'biased beliefs', did I not ask for someone to quote where upon numpty may perhaps have a point? Is it biased to ask for proof?
~
As for your piece on negative responses will not help, only hamper this person seeing the fault in their way. I could care less, this person called for a child to be aborted because she dislikes the father or the home it would have been brought up in. Then you suggest we play nice?
Did I ask for this person to be aborted, insult them with various curses and names unwanted from a priests tongue? If by that you mean we shouldn't speak negatively. Then yes.
But demanding proof for when a claim is put forward is only natural.
Nothing more.
Comment by Brandon Shuemaker on April 29, 2012 at 8:12pm True that. Another Troll down.
Millions left to go.
Comment by Alaska Is Beautiful on April 29, 2012 at 8:10pm I see your point about not tackling this guy/girl/inhuman tumblr monster head on...but a Nerdfighter's first and instant response to something like this is an inexplicable force that cannot be contained and can only be expressed through internet ranting.
But, if the tumblr can no longer be found, it worked, right?
Nerdfighters: Saving the day, one troll at a time.
Comment by Brandon Shuemaker on April 29, 2012 at 7:56pm Man I was scrolling through that Tumblr because I really was in disbelief that such a Tumblblog could even exist.
I don't really understand why you would voice your opinion like that with such biased beliefs. If you want to pose an argument,and your intent is to actually have your idea noticed and thought about, you do it justly with evidence from both sides.
And also large group response doesn't necessarily make things better. On that Tumblr there are like 500 notes and growing with each passing wave of nerd fighters. Repeated negative responses only justify that person's cause in his/her own eyes. Although we all may believe that person makes the most insane claims ever put on the interwebs in some irrational hatred of one man, in that person's opinion, they're right and we're wrong.
I don't understand why you would want to maintain such a thing or why you would want to pose your argument so angrily. Because I for one do not have the time really to do much more than an occasional post like this. (Calc III beckons.)
Anyway, reason evades people sometimes. I believe that the best way to try to make someone see that the grass is greener on your ideology side is to not tell them flat out that they're wrong, but to introduce them to the idea that maybe their ideas are too vague or less developed.
I feel like with such an overwhelming response, that person received the reinforcement s/he needed to justify their own ideas.
P.S. By the time I finished this, that tumblr returned a "Not Found"
Comment by God ~blogs admin ~ on April 29, 2012 at 6:03pm Heh, cheers you pair ^_^
