People using gay as an insult is probably my biggest pet peeve. I've found that people who use it as an insult usually fall into two categories: Either they really do think being gay is evil/horrible/wrong/whatever - in which case I usually have a hard time trying to convince them otherwise - or they "didn't mean actual gay people", they're merely using it as a synonym for 'stupid'. As we all know, language changes over time. The problem is, the word 'gay' is generally used by, well, most people, to refer to people (sometimes with the distinction of men) who are attracted to those of the same gender. Some people try to ignore the whole argument by saying that gay means 'happy' - which it did, at one point. But no one in modern society can use the word to simply mean happy anymore. Many people use the word to describe who they are, which means using it to insult someone isn't really acceptable, just as it's not acceptable to use 'retarded' or 'black' as an insult.

I doubt your video changed anybody's mind, John, but it was still really nice to see my beliefs stated by someone with a much larger audience than I have! (Also, the 'your stupid' comments crack me up. My stupid what?)
