Nerdfighters

This is going to be my intro blog (blog intro?) so if that's not the kind of thing you're interested in you are more than welcome to move on to something more intriguing. No hard feelings.

My name is Natasha. I'm a 21 year-old resident of British Columbia, Canada. I am a book lover. I've been reading for as long as I can remember and I will probably read until the day I die. That actually wouldn't be a bad way to go, with a book in hand. However, I digress. I'm also very interested in psychology and will be attending university in the fall to further my goal of becoming a psychologist. I currently wish to help suicidal teenagers. I say currently because I know quite often what you go to school for isn't what you end up doing. I hope I stick with psychology because it is an incredible field but I'll be happy just so long as I'm doing something I love. Money isn't all that important to me in the grand scheme of things.

I am very interested in, and a little in love with, music. I know, I know, who isn't interested in music? I'm a big fan of the punk genre but I have very eclectic tastes when it comes to music (as well as pretty much everything else now that I think about it). What I listen to varies from metal to country, classic rock to J-pop, and even a little bit of Russian opera. I also like to support local bands. My two favourite local bands are Cotton Mouth Jones and Lost in the Revolution.

A few other things I enjoy doing include; baking, cooking, sewing, and singing. I will touch on each of these briefly.

Baking: My mom is an amazing person. Until I was about ten or twelve she was a stay-at-home-mom. This was probably pretty difficult for her since she's a people person. However, when she was at home all the time she would bake. I would help her out sometimes but that's not really why I like baking so much, I mostly enjoy the finished product.

Cooking: When it comes to cooking I have three main role-models. My dad, my grandma, and my auntie Beth. All three of these people are amazing, creative cooks. They love cooking so much I had no hope of not falling for it myself (oh double negatives). Much like baking though, the finished product is the best part.

Sewing: I took a sewing class when I was twelve. Not so much because I wanted to but because I needed an extra elective and it was the only thing that seemed sort of interesting. Little did I know I would take to it almost immediately and enjoy it immensely.

Singing: I have been singing since I was two years old and rocking out to Alice Cooper's "Hey Stupid". While in choir they had us singing more refined songs, I still love singing along with the radio. I'm not a particularly good singer but it's a lot of fun and that's what really matters.

Alright. That's a small glimpse of who I am. I think I'll draw this intro to a close. I spent a lot more time than I care to admit thinking about what exactly to write here. Actually that seems to be the trend for me here on the Ning. I've been really thinking before I write or do just about anything. Lately I've been feeling vegitized, so thinking makes for a pleasant change. I promise to try to write thoughtful and interesting blog posts here.

Oh, and if you're still reading thank you. I appreciate it, and just because I've always wanted to say this: DFTBA.

Well I've only just gotten interested in Russian Opera but I would definitely suggest Vitas. He is amazing. I'm a big fan of his "Opera 2".

I would love to actually go to the Opera but until I get the chance I'll have to make do with listening to it on YouTube.

It's a splendid first blog post :)

Could you recommend me a Russian Opera? I actually saw "Gogol" last year (which is, quite obviously an opera about Gogol, the author) and was very impressed. I'd love to learn more about it.
