How to be a Ningmaster!

Greetings Nerdfighters!

I have had a few messages and tweets over the last week or so regarding Administrator and Moderator appointments, but I have been away so sorry if I haven’t got back to you yet! This is a subject often brought up when we talk with the users.  So I have written a handy guide that will give you tips on how to go about applying and when.

 

When can we apply for Admin Positions? I think I missed the last set of positions!

The answer to this is simple. Any time.  Although it is true that we tend to have a big recruitment drive once/twice a year, that does not mean that we are not in need of extra people. Things change, and we see people come and go who need replacing.

 

Okay, where or who do I apply to?

This depends on how what sort of position you are looking at. If you are looking to become a moderator in a particular section under the resident Ningmaster (Admin) then contact them directly. You can find a list of the Admins here. If you want to apply for a Admin position however, or a Moderator job under myself then contact either me or Dan, the Programming Admin.

 

How long do the positions last for?

We used to put a limit of three to six months on each position, but now we give people the option of staying on if they so wish. When we first appoint someone they are put on a two week trial. After those two weeks we will then see how you have done so far and then where we will go from there!

 

I just want to help around the site, can I do that without getting powers?

Some people do not like to be handed responsibility for moderating, and maybe just want to help around the site by submitting content such as blogs for featuring on the main page, or giving suggestions on how to improve the site. Regardless of what it is, contact the relevant Ningmaster or myself and let us know! We are always looking for Nerdfighters who are looking to add their own stamp to the site!

 

Where can I find the available positions when you advertise them?

The front page of the Nerdfighters site is your best indication, where we will blog on the main page when the time comes. I will also be putting out announcements on the Nerdfightersinfo youtube channel and on twitter (@Nerdfighterinso). So subscribe/follow to get the heads up!

I'd suggesting talking to Clive - you can see his profile listed here at the bottom -. If he doesn't respond however, I'd suggest talking to Dave to get things moving faster.

Ahh, I would reckon the image section of the team would be good for you. At the moment we've Clive in images who does a weekly/monthly blog on the stuff. So, if you wanted to get involved with the pictures/images/whatever on the site; I'd imagine you'd need to start out as a mod to begin with. 

What that'd entail would basically be looking through all the submitted images and making sure they align with the ToS.

We're here basically to enforce the ToS - terms of service -. I personally primarily look after the blogs section, make sure everyone plays nice and feature content that I feel the members may enjoy. It really depends on what area you're looking to get involved in as well. Say you were looking to join the forums team, they've two NingMasters already, so you'd more than likely end up a forums mod if you still wanted to go ahead with joining the team.
