In the Darkness in the Night

In the Darkness in the Night
By Ben Burnett

In the darkness, in the night,
I walk alone without a fight,
I can't be helped I can't be saved,
It seems my path is already made.

In the darkness, in the night,
All is silent, all is right,
I walk a path that no one should,
Somehow it always seemed I would.

In the darkness, in the night,
I see the shadow, it consumes my sight,
I see a light but turn away,
It is supposed to be this way.

In the darkness, in the night,
None is hopeful, all is right,
Darkness is my only friend,
It will be with me 'till the end.

In the darkness, in the night,
The dark encourages me to fight,
Never wondering, not a care,
The dark is never too much to bear.

In the darkness, in the night,
Dark is there, and dark is right,
I walk alone with no one else,
I always know that I'm myself.

In the darkness, in the night,
I look up to the dark and all its might,
Never wanting to escape this plane,
In the darkness my will won't wane.

In the darkness, in the night,
In the coldness without a fight,
It's always been this way, it always will,
The darkness never gave me a chill.

In the darkness, in the night,
I see a hole, I see a light,
Civilization is far away,
That's the way I want it to stay.

In the darkness, in the night,
Anyone I meet, I plan to smite,
I don't want them to walk with me,
In this place where I can't see.

In the darkness, in the night,
I am a living ancient rite,
It is my duty to walk this road,
While carrying my heavy load.

In the darkness, in the night,
This holy war has become my fight,
Chosen by Erebus to walk the shade,
I now wield his darkened blade.

In the darkness, in the night,
Always walking out of sight,
When the times comes, I always fight,
Decimating the creatures of holy light.

In the darkness, in the night,
Feeling nothing, but dark might,
I don't walk dark out of hate or fear,
I walk it because the dark has an open ear.

In the darkness, in the night,
Don't feel for me, because I feel alright,
Walking the dark without a care,
Never wondering what's out there.

Author's Note:
This poem was written before many life changing events took place. At the time of conception, and of writing, I was merely feeling dark; not sad, or depressed, or suicidal. Also, throughout the poem, original stanzas have been removed, and/or been changed slightly due to a higher vocabulary level. Starting with the 18th stanza, this poem was rewritten entirely; at the time of writing three years ago, this piece was deemed "too dark" by an outside party (aka, my mom) and the desired ending was left out; the new ending was added, to fit the theme of the poem. There are still no feelings of depression, or sadness.
