In which John talks about Israel and Palestine, and the Israel's recent invasion of the Gaza Strip in response to rocket attacks from Hamas. Obviously no four-minute video can do the topic justice; we'll continue the conversation in comments, hopefully with some thoughtfulness and empathy.

the 1947 map was poorly drafted!!!!! i hate that thing. i agree with everything else but i think that my 4th period Middle Eastern studies class could make a better map. I mean not that it would matters(both sides will stilll be unhappy with the turn out) i think that the British dont take enough blame for the situation. They were promising both sides lade and then just pulled out....so not cool!!!!!!

It is very hard for me not to be bias as I am Muslim, but I did feel that you were commenting more on the fact that Hamas was evil and that they were shooting rockets into Israel. I don't think that Hamas is right but I don't think removing Hamas is going to solve anything , even if Israel completely destroyed Hamas there is another generation of children who have seen their families blown into pieces by Israelis who will only continue where Hamas stopped . The sights these poor children see everyday are simply horrific and I don’t only mean Palestinian children. It’s never ending, I don't mean to be negative but with Lebanon joining in now it looks like things will only get worse. John I know you tried to make this video less miserable but I am very sorry to say that even bubbles the Nerdfighting puppy ( but he got very close ) could make this subject less depressing and terrible .

Thanks for the summary, John. I have been watching this on the news, but it's made little sense without the history behind it. Although, I think that even with the right historical context, it's abundantly clear that both sides are being idiots and the involvement of other nations seems to be making things worse, not better. I think that a shared Jerusalem is the only way there can be any kind of peace, but with the recent hostility, I'm not sure reconciliation will be on anyone's minds until things cool down a little. I'm working on the historical context part, and am reading a rather lengthy and purely fascination book on the subject.

I think current event sundays are going to be my favorite part of this whole project!

Thank you so much for covering this topic. The way you present it isn't tainted by racism or prejudice, like so many other sources. As Muslim in America, so far from the war, my community has been seriously affected by the attacks on Palestine. Peace is the way to go homies.
