Now I think this might turn into a wee bit of a rant so bare with me. I get extremely annoyed whilst listening to the radio or some crappy two-bit rapper from someones phone, and a good question could be simply be... *drum roll please*... why?

Even simpler, modern day music, rap and anything else like that as such, has lost it's meaning, well if you consider getting laid, smacking yourself full of drugs or hating the world to be good meanings to carrier to younger generations then sure! Today's music is just grand!

The only thing I'll ever credit to a monarchy is that they inspired the poets, the song writers and the great people of yesterday.... Had people such as '50 cent' or 'snoop dog' or even Marlyn Manson been writing the lyrics back then as they do today, I'd have nothing good to say about the poets of the past.

I've tried to use reasoning to gather why said people are successful in pawning off they're half-arsed work as musical 'hits' and I've come to three conclusions:

One. People are getting dumber, or at least the majority are. Why else would they buy such trash which neither highlights something special (other than a drug deal if it's a rapper, hating the world if it's a Emo). Everyone's heard those songs a thousand times by a thousand different -singers-. Therefore, I came to the conclusion that if this is the case, any 'magic' which music once conveyed is long since forgotten and buried.

Two. People look up to these people! Yes, it's the simpler answer but then I have a question for these people. Why the feck would you look up to someone who swears more than they can hold a note in their whole career!?! If you're going to look upto someone, make sure it's for a worthwhile reason other than "Ohh them's is famous an' rich!! meh likeith!".

Three. People can identify with said 'artists'. This, I believe, is the most worrying point. If the majority can see themselves treating women like they're simply something to be used then there is something seriously wrong with the majority who supports this type of music.

I'm more lenient when it comes to scene and Emo music (unless the folk are just doing it for attention). The majority who bother with this are either going through a hard time (why they would listen to this stuff at that point is beyond me) or people who need something to mark themselves with.

But aye, daily rant over with. Lords high above know I've lost faith in main stream music, but what'd y'all think? Main stream music be buggered or what?

I think many people unfairly associate all "mainstream" music with "aah, bad!" just because some of it involves themes we deem unethical. Not all popular music is like that and I think it's unfair and prejudiced to say it is. I also feel that many people like the "half-arsed" songs of questionable morality simply because of the songs' aural qualities. I'd bet that fewer people try to comprehend lyrics than you'd think, and that more people just seek a song with catchy tune that they can hum. It's not necessarily a question of stupidity, but of priority.
I like to think that, as is said about art, one must learn the rules before one may break them, and rappers are in fact some of the most learned individuals in our society because of how they so often stretch and manipulate the English language. Okay, I believe none of the previous sentence, but it's a nice thought.
Woah, I got quite derailed from my initial train of thought. It's your taste in music; do whatever you want with it. The end.
