Nerdfighters

I am indeed,, a brand new Nerdfighter.

And as a brand new Nerdfighter, I love the vlogbrothers episodes and I try to watch 30 episodes each day. However, it is not going fast enough to fully understand the essencial knowlegde needed to be a Nerdfighter, I didn't even know what type of Nerdfighter I actually am while signing up for this site.

But what I DID find out, is that unlike John, I do understand why the sky is blue.
~~ whooptidoo~~ :]
But this got me thinking that it actually doesn't mean anything at all. Because even though I'm a language and science nerd, I'm a complete idiot as it comes to an immasive lot of other stuff.
Like understanding electronics. I have the impression that I am the only one on this planet who can crash a friend's computer by trying to turn it on. It just never did anything again, once I pushed that concerning ONbutton. Same as I still do not know how to go to the internet at a cellphone. For this reason, I refused to get a complex but FREE phone while getting a cellular subscription. The shop seller asked me if I wanted GPS, no. If I wanted internet, no. If I wanted to be able to have a lot of apps, no. If I wanted a good camera, no. "..So, you only want to..?" Yes. I only want to text and call, because that's the only thing that I KNOW how to do!

Another thing that is just ridiculously embarrassing but fun to tell. I cannot ever remember the right way. I can never recognize anything I've seen at all, unless I can see it in that exact same angle as I've seen it before, trying to make it a point of recognition. So for 20 years I've lived in the same city, in the same house, and never been able to give directions to a stanger to find something in the city, because even now, I still do not know how to find anything in that city at all. As a result, that one time a group of friends and I went to my city of birth, I didn't realize they were depending on me to find a particular store until the moment we were all teribly lost and someone had to call his parents, because then cellphones didn't have GPS yet. Fortunately, not a single person of that group of friends will ever ask me how to get somewhere, nor follow me to try to get somewhere.

So yes I do know why the sky is blue, why life is possible on earth, what happens when a sun collaps, and why I don't know how to comment on a comment at this site. Because I did not know, do not know and also will NEVER know how electronics work or how to find my way.
But in my opinion, it is these differences of knowledge among the people, that makes life and all different types of relationships interesting, because even though we know a lot about certain subjects, we will always be obviously oblivious about other subjects.

Welcome to Nerdfighteria.  I think you'll like it here.  Not all nerds are good at/interested in ALL the nerdy things, but we all have our own...let's say quirks.  Best wishes,  Angie.
